Amazon cuts prices on Ring Doorbells, Ring Alarm Kits, and Blink Cameras

Ring Video Doorbell 2 review
Terry Walsh/Digital Trends

With Ring and Blink both now under the Amazon umbrella, the site has become the go-to place for good deals on these smart home products. Right now Amazon is running sales of up to 40% off on Blink Indoor Home Security Cameras, Ring Doorbells, and Ring Alarm security system packages for a limited time.

We’ve reviewed all of the Ring products included, and would recommend any of them. The Ring Video Doorbell 2 is a solid upgrade over the original doorbell in terms of video quality and improved motion detection, but we’d recommend the hard-wired Ring Doorbell Pro for even better picture quality if you have a pre-existing wired doorbell. The Ring Alarm system gets high marks from us for its easy installation and reliable performance.

The best thing about the Ring products is that they’re all designed to work together through a single unified app. That’s refreshing considering that there are so many smart home gadgets out there, and in turn, many apps to control them). Ring’s app does work with select smart locks, too, an added bonus.

While we haven’t reviewed the Blink Indoor Home Security Camera directly ourselves, we have reviewed Blink cameras in the past, one of which made it to our list of the best security cameras for 2019. This particular model runs off of 2 ‘AA’ batteries for up to two years, meaning there are no wires to run.

So what are the best deals we’ve found? There are quite a few, but we’d really recommend considering the deal on the Ring Alarm system: those prices are some of the best we’ve seen so far.

Arlo extends end-of-life support for legacy cameras and doorbells
Arlo Pro 4 Spotlight Camera casing

It looks like households equipped with older, legacy Arlo products won’t have to rush out and buy new gear after all, as the company has changed course on its end-of-life policy that was revealed last month. Previously, several aging cameras and video doorbells in the Arlo lineup were expected to lose access to seven-day cloud storage, notifications, and future updates -- but after reaching out to its community, the company has decided to extend coverage instead of roll it back.

As products age, it’s standard practice for companies to stop supporting them. The time and resources needed to manage outdated products aren’t insignificant, and newer products that are pegged as their replacement quickly become the new focus. However, there was a bit of backlash when Arlo announced its original plans, as a handful of the devices scheduled to be sunset had been released just over five years ago.

Blink Wired Floodlight Camera offers heaps of features and an affordable price tag
The Blink Wired Floodlight installed outside.

Blink, an Amazon-owned company that produces a wide variety of smart home gadgets, today announced the Blink Wired Floodlight Camera. The affordable device clocks in at just $99 yet manages to offer 1080p video capture, 2,600 lumens of LED lighting, motion detection, and several other premium features.

While Blink’s catalog is comprised of several indoor and outdoor cameras, this is the company’s first true floodlight. Previously, homeowners needed to purchase a Floodlight Mount for the Blink Outdoor Camera, and even then they would only benefit from 700 lumens of LED lights. The Blink Wired Floodlight Camera, meanwhile, is a standalone product that doesn’t require a secondary purchase -- pick it up for $99, and you’re ready for installation.

Ring Video Doorbell installed next to a white entry door.

The Ring Video Doorbell is one of the best smart doorbells of 2023. Not only is it affordable, but it can capture HD video, store footage for later review, and is remarkably easy to install regardless of your existing setup. However, if you’re looking to make the most of your fancy smart doorbell, you'll want to dive into its accompanying smartphone app and make a few tweaks to your settings. Here are five tips and tricks for the Ring Video Doorbell to improve its performance.
Set up your motion zones

The first thing you’ll want to do after installing your Ring Video Doorbell is set up motion zones. These are customizable areas that will trigger an alert if motion is detected -- and properly setting them up will save you the headache of getting unwanted updates. To customize your motion zones, load up your Ring app and tap the three lines at the top of your screen. From there, select Devices, then navigate through Motion Settings to Motion Zones. You’ll now be able to add zones and adjust the size of existing zones.
