Among Us 2 canceled, planned features will be added to the original

The developer of the viral online multiplayer game Among Us is canceling its sequel to focus all of its resources instead on improving the original. In a blog post, InnerSloth wrote that the unexpected surge in the game’s popularity has made the studio reconsider its plans and abandon Among Us 2, which was announced just over a month ago.

InnerSloth adds that it will bring all of the features it had in the works for the sequel to the original game. More importantly, since Among Us is technically more than 2 years old, its outdated codebase has been unable to keep up the soaring number of players as well as support new-gen content, and to fix that, the developer says it will be reworking several parts of the game’s core.

“The main reason we are shooting for a sequel is because the codebase of Among Us 1 is so outdated and not built to support adding so much new content,” InnerSloth wrote in the blog post. “However, seeing how many people are enjoying Among Us 1 really makes us want to be able to support the game and take it to the next level. We have decided to cancel Among Us 2 and instead put all our focus into improving Among Us 1.”

InnerSloth also shared which improvements it’s prioritizing at the moment for the next couple of updates. Among Us will soon get a new Henry Stickmin-themed stage, better and more reliable servers, support for colorblind users (which means more color options), and a friends account system.

Among Us is a social deduction game where your job is to work with a team to identify imposters — which, despite being available for over two years, only recently went viral when a series of Twitch streamers picked it up. At the time of writing, Among Us is the second-most popular game on Steam with over 325,000 active players and the leading stream channel on Twitch hosting more than 330,000 viewers. In comparison, last month when InnerSloth announced the sequel, the original game had just over 70,000 players. Among Us is available for Windows PCs, Android, iOS and can be played on Mac as well.

At CES 2023, Sony confirmed that there would be over 30 launch titles for PlayStation VR2. Today, we learned specifics on what exactly 37 of those PlayStation VR2 launch window games are on PlayStation Blog.
This announcement also contains 13 new titles that we didn't know were coming to PlayStation VR before. Particular new highlights include Before Your Eyes, an emotionally moving game where blinking is the main form of interaction, Tetris Effect: Connected, a multiplayer-enhanced version of one the original PlayStation VR's best games, and What the Bat?, a comedy game where the player's arms are bats. Of course, the crown jewel of PlayStation VR2's launch is still Horizon Call of the Mountain, a VR spin-off of one of PlayStation's most successful recent franchises.

A free Among Us clone about geese is currently blowing up on Steam

The latest indie viral success on Steam is Goose Goose Duck, a free-to-play Among Us clone about geese trying to avoid being murdered by a couple of ducks in their midst. At the time of this writing, over 457,000 people were playing the game on Steam.

As was the case with Among Us, Goose Goose Duck's viral success comes a while after launching, as Gaggle Studios' title first launched in 2021. V, a member of South Korean boy band BTS, started playing Goose Goose Duck late last year, and its player base has skyrocketed as the game caught on in Korea, China, and now, the U.S. Following a long string of games like Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout, Among Us, and Wordle, it looks like Goose Goose Duck is gaming's next viral hit.
But is it any good?

On the surface, Goose Goose Duck is a pretty blatant Among Us clone. It's a social deduction game where players must complete tasks around a map while some other players are actually trying to kill those other players but blend in well enough not to be voted out. I played a couple of matches after hearing about its virality, and while it's a good time, the only things that really stand out about it over Among Us to me is how players draft subroles ahead of every match to get unique abilities and the mode variety.
Still, as a free-to-play Steam game with over seven maps and even more modes for those looking for something a little more different than Among Us, I can see how this game could go viral after a well-known celebrity frequently streams it. Plus, Untitled Goose Game had already demonstrated that you could never go wrong with putting geese front and center of your game.
Now, we'll just have to see if Goose Goose Duck continues to grow in popularity outside of Asi,a or if it's just the earliest gaming fad of 2023. Still, don't be surprised to see Goose Goose Duck more and more in the coming weeks.

Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery got a lot of attention over the holiday weekend as it dropped on Netflix in time for Christmas. Though there's a lot to discuss about the Mona Lisa-hating mystery, one particular loose thread deserves a little interrogating: the Among Us cameo.

The scene: Early in the film, we're treated to a scene where Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) plays Among Us from his bathtub. He's playing over Zoom with a star-studded pandemic dream team that includes Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Stephen Sondheim, Angela Lansbury, and Natasha Lyonne. In a cruel twist of fate, he's absolutely terrible at it -- Lyonne suggests that they ditch it to play Quiplash instead.
