Enter the Animus in the latest ‘Assassin’s Creed’ movie trailer

Assassin’s Creed | Official Trailer 2 [HD] | 20th Century FOX
If you’re new to the Assassin’s Creed series, the latest trailer for the game-to-film adaptation should give you an idea of what to expect: Michael Fassbender’s Callum Lynch kicking plenty of ass in both present and past.

“His name is Callum Lynch,” a suited figure says as Lynch attacks security guards and is then led into a prison facility in shackles. “We’ve traced his bloodline back 500 years to the Assassin’s Creed.”

Callum is hooked up to a machine that begins injecting him with a mysterious clear fluid, and is told by Dr. Sophia Rikkin — played by Oscar winner Marion Cotillard — that for all intents and purposes, he no longer exists.

“This is your second chance,” Rikkin says as Callum Lynch is outfitted with the Assassin equipment his ancestors once used. Callum is then connected to the Animus via a Matrix-like invasive spike device and is then lifted into the air by a mechanical arm — it’s much more violent than the Animus units we see in the games, but it takes Lynch back to the Spanish Inquisition just the same.

“What I saw in there … it felt real,” Lynch says as we see his ancestor Aguilar lead a group of Assassins. He dodges crossbow fire, leaps from buildings, and takes out several unsuspecting targets. Perhaps the best shot is of Lynch destroying a carriage before throwing out a grappling hook to stop himself from plummeting off a cliff to his demise.

Though we’ve been open about the trouble with video game movies in the past, Ubisoft and Fox are certainly pulling out all the stops with Assassin’s Creed. In addition to Fassbender and Cotillard, the cast also includes Jeremy Irons and Michael K. Williams.

Assassin’s Creed hits theaters on December 21. A virtual reality game tie-in is also expected to launch around the same time.

Creed III final trailer teases explosive fight between Adonis and Damian
Michael B. Jordan stares in the middle of a boxing ring in Creed III.

The final trailer for Creed III highlights the impending showdown between Adonis Creed (Black Panther's Michael B. Jordan) and Damian Anderson (Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania's Jonathan Majors). The brothers-turned-enemies will settle their long-standing score in the ring in what promises to be an explosive fight.

"When Dame came back, the past came back too," Adonis says to a concerned Bianca (Thor: Love and Thunder's Tessa Thompson) in the trailer. Damian and Adonis were like brothers growing up until an encounter with the police changed their lives. Damian was forced to serve a lengthy prison sentence while Adonis became a boxing world champion. Now a free man, Damian is going after Adonis and the life he believes Creed stole from him. Faced with few options, Adonis is forced out of retirement to settle his score with Damian inside the ring.

For Creed III, Michael B. Jordan wanted a new challenge not only in the ring but outside of it as well. The Creed franchise emphasizes the fight outside the ring is more important than the one within, and Jordan will look to keep that spirit alive in the third film.

Michael B. Jordan is ready to carry the mantle of the Rocky franchise in Creed III. The first trailer for Creed III teases a battle with an important figure in Adonis's past.

That person is Damian Anderson, played by Jonathan Majors. Adonis and Damian were childhood friends, but an encounter with the law sent Damian away for almost two decades. Now, Damian is back, and Adonis attempts to repair their relationship through boxing. However, Damian is looking to fight Adonis, not train with him, and the conflict between the two friends will have to be settled in the ring. Jordan praised the addition of Majors to the franchise and teased the impending showdown between the two characters.
