Ubisoft continues to expand the Assassin’s Creed mythology, this time taking the popular series about a brotherhood of assassins that have survived throughout the generations to Russia via a three issue comic mini-series.
The comic will be developed by Eisner Award nominees and Shuster Award-winning illustrators Cameron Stewart (Batman & Robin, Seaguy) and Karl Kerschl (Superman, The Flash). The comic will officially debut at ComicCon on July 22.
The plot is still under wraps, but from the press release and the video below, the story appears to involve the Tunguska Event, a massive explosion that occurred in 1908 near Lake Baikal, in a mostly uninhabited area of Siberia. Several theories have been suggested to explain the explosion that was about 1,000 times as powerful as the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima, but most believe that it was caused by the air burst of a large meteor or comet fragment.
The Tunguska Event occurred nine years before the Russian Revolution of 1917, but the red star in the logo seems to suggest that the story involves Soviet Russia, which officially formed in 1922. Looks like we’ll have to wait until ComicCon for more details.
