Marvel’s Avengers to get long-delayed next-gen update, new Hawkeye character

Marvel’s Avengers is finally getting its long-awaited next-gen upgrade on March 18. The update will arrive on the same day as the debut of the game’s new character, Hawkeye.

Square Enix’s live-service game originally launched last August. The company initially planned to drop a free next-gen upgrade for the game after the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S launched late last year, but it was delayed till 2021 as the developers were preoccupied with fixing the game’s numerous bugs.

The upgrade will enhance the game’s visuals, frame rate, load times, and more on new consoles. The PlayStation 5 version will receive DualSense support with haptic feedback specific to each character. PS5 and Xbox Series X/S owners will be able to update to the new version for free and transfer their saves to the new version. The next-gen version supports cross-generation play as well.

Clint Barton, aka Hawkeye, comes to the game on March 18 as well. As one might expect, Hawkeye is a long-ranged character who fights with a bow and arrow. The character comes with 10 unique arrow types, which include a grapple arrow used for mobility and a boomerang shot. The character appears to play similarly to Kate Bishop, the other Hawkeye, who was the game’s first DLC character.

The update brings the new Future Imperfect operation to the game, which features new story content centered around a Kree invasion. The content drop adds an entirely new location to the game called the Wastelands, as well as new story missions and villain sectors. Fans of the comics will also be happy to learn that Lucky, Hawkeye’s dog, appears in the new story as well.
