Check out our written review of the Sony PlayStation Vita Slim.
Borderlands 2 will come to Sony’s PlayStation in spring 2014, Sony confirms. The game will be packaged into a Borderlands 2 Limited Edition PlayStation Vita bundle, which packs in the game, six of its DLC packs, an 8GB memory card, and – perhaps most importantly – a PS Vita slim. The redesigned handheld was revealed and released in Japan late last year, and a UK release was subsequently confirmed in January. There’s been no word on plans for a US release of the slimmed down Vita until now. The above bundle will sell for $199.99.
The updated Vita changes a few features from the original design. The 5-inch OLED touchscreen is ditched in favor of a more power-friendly 5-inch LCD touchscreen, there’s now 1GB of onboard memory plus a microUSB slot, and the whole handheld is 20 percent thinner and 15 percent lighter than its predecessor. The big revelation here is the price. The slimmer Vita was released in the UK on February 7 with a £180 price tag, which converts to roughly $300. You can currently by a first-generation PS Vita in the US for $200, and a mark-up on the redesigned handheld would likely have been met with … sharp criticism.
The Vita version of Borderlands 2 won’t change too much from its earlier releases, though new touchscreen controls will help with map viewing and inventory management. The six downloadable content packs included with the small-screen release are: Captain Scarlett & Her Pirate’s Booty, Mr. Torgue’s Campaign of Carnage, the Psycho and Mechromancer character classes, the Ultimate Vault Hunter Upgrade Pack 1, and the Collector’s Edition Pack. There’s no word on the availability of the game’s other DLC, notably Sir Hammerlock’s Big Game Hunt, Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keep, and the assorted Headhunter packs. We’ve reached out to 2K to find out if they’ll be available for the Vita release, and if you’ll be able to get them on day one.
