If you build it, you will play.
For the first time ever, popular characters from DC Comics, The Lord of the Rings, and a number of other popular franchises will come to the LEGO universe in the upcoming game LEGO Dimensions, developed by TT Games. The game blends the physical world with the digital, including both a videogame and those colorful plastic figurines we all know and love. The specialty mini figures will be customizeable and available in three types of expansion packs — Level Packs, Team Packs, and Fun Packs — set to be released throughout 2015 and into 2016.
The LEGO Dimensions Starter Pack comes with the game and includes bricks, a LEGO Toy Pad that allows players to build LEGO mini figures, and the LEGO Getaway from The Lego Movie. You won’t have to wait to play with Gandalf the Grey, or Wyldstyle from The LEGO Movie, or Batman — with a LEGO Batmobile! — as they are also included in the Starter Pack.
A few of the expansion packs slated to be released this year will include the debut of a LEGO Marty McFly minifigure time-traveling in a Back to the Future Level Pack and the Wicked Witch of the West wreaking havoc in The Wizard of Oz Fun Pack. Even if you get bored with the available characters before the new expansion packs are released, the customization value is in your hands, literally.
“Imagine putting LEGO Gollum from The Lord of the Rings behind the wheel of the LEGO DeLorean Time Machine in New Ninjago City — the creative play is endless,” according to Jon Burton, founder and Creative Director of TT Games according to a press release for the game.
Future expansion packs will continue to be released into 2016 and will be compatible with the Starter Pack, even into fall of 2016.
LEGO Dimensions is set to be released on September 27, 2015, and will be available on XBOX One, XBOX 360, and Playstation 3 and 4, as well as the Wii U.
