Leaked images show inevitable arrival of duos, squads to Call of Duty: Warzone

Leaked images of the Call of Duty: Warzone menu screen reveals that the option to play the battle royale shooter as duos or squads is coming soon.

Warzone, which launched on March 10 as a free-to-play, standalone game, features Verdansk, a sprawling map that is capable of accommodating 150 players. Currently, players may choose to play solo or with teams of three, though the goal remains the same — survive as the last man or group standing.

In less than two weeks, Warzone has drawn over 30 million players, with the game on track to match the tremendous growth of Apex Legends when it launched last year, drawing 50 million players in its first four weeks.

To maintain Warzone‘s growth, it appears that Activision will soon allow players to drop into Verdansk in groups of two or four, according to leaked menu images uploaded to Twitter.

Duos, and squads are definitely coming in the future, as well as the ability to change rules and run private matches of #Warzone!

All of this was assumed from the code but it’s nice to an in game menu. Thanks to discord user Shenlord for the pictures! #CallofDuty #CoDWarzone pic.twitter.com/Kcfzbg98iY

The duo and squad modes were inevitable additions to Warzone, as most battle royale shooters offer players options on how many allies they want on their side. With the leaked screenshots, it would appear that the new modes will arrive in the game sooner rather than later, though neither Activision nor developer Infinity Ward has officially announced when they will be added to Warzone.

In addition to teams of two and four, it appears that the option for players to create private matches with customizable rules is also coming soon to Warzone.

Infinity Ward rolled out the first update to Warzone on March 17, exactly a week after the game’s launch. The developer is expected to release another update on March 24, which is the soonest possible time that duos and squads options will arrive in the battle royale shooter.

Call of Duty: Warzone leaks

Before Call of Duty: Warzone was officially announced, it was the subject of several leaks and rumors that included the battle royale game’s map and mechanics.

Activision is seeking the identity of one of the leakers, who uploaded artwork for the then-unannounced Warzone. The image in question appears to be part of an internal document, which meant that it could only have been leaked by an employee of Activision or Infinity Ward.

The best weapons in Warzone
Characters posing for Warzone Season 4 promo art.

Now that Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 Season 4 has been out for a little while, we've got a better sense of the game's weapon meta. There are some clear winners that carry over from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II, but there are other top-tier weapons that might surprise you in battle royale. Of course, the weapon meta constantly shifts as Activision updates the way firearms perform, so we'll make sure to keep this up to date with each new patch.

These are the best Warzone 2.0 weapons for Season 4, categorized by weapon type. Keep in mind, some categories will be skipped, as they don't have any viable -- let alone meta -- options at the moment.

You can get Call of Duty and Alan Wake with PS Plus in July

Sony has confirmed the three PS4 and PS5 games PlayStation Plus Essential subscribers will receive this July, and it's actually the best lineup the service has seen in a while. It features one of the best Call of Duty games from recent years, a cult classic that needs to be played before its sequel launches next year, and an overlooked 2022 indie.
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War was first released in 2020 and, as its title suggests, is set in the 1980s during the Cold War. It features one of the most creative Call of Duty campaigns since Modern Warfare 2 and makes excellent use of DualSense's haptic feedback and adaptive triggers. The multiplayer and zombie modes are good fun too. Next up is Alan Wake Remastered, a remaster of an excellent 2010 horror-thriller from Control developer Remedy Entertainment. It's an experience best played unspoiled, so I'll simply recommend you go and play this. Its PS Plus addition is timed well, too, as Alan Wake II is set to release and continue the story this October.
Finally, Endling - Extinction is Forever is available this month. This 2022 indie game follows a mother fox as she tries to protect her cubs in a forest continuously getting ravaged by humans. It's a chilling, staunchly harrowing adventure that clearly displays the negative effects of deforestation, pollution, and environmental exploitation. You might have missed this game last year, as it came out on the same day as Stray, so definitely give it a shot now if you haven't yet.
This lineup of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Cross-Gen Bundle, Alan Wake Remastered, and Endling - Extinction is Forever is one of the best lineups PS Plus Essential has seen in months, so definitely pick up these games when they are available between July 4 and July 31. Make sure you download June's titles before July 4 as well.
