Call of Duty: Warzone update adds Hollywood icons for Halloween fun

Skins for Leatherface from The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Billy the Puppet from Saw are haunting Verdansk in Call of Duty: Warzone‘s Halloween update, as well as blueprints for weapons inspired by both films, with other horror-themed cosmetics padding out the update.

The battle royale will, for the first time since launch, have the option of being set at night, with only the light of the moon to illuminate the map. So, make sure to have a loadout equipped with thermals.

The new trick-or-treat mode will cover the map with supply boxes that will either hold rewards for the player or, if you’re unlucky, what Activision describes as, “a brief scare.” Details on those tricks are a mystery at the moment.

There will also be a zombie royale mode, similar to last year’s Halloween update for Apex Legends, where fallen players can return as the undead. As a zombie, players will have improved speed, can jump further, hit harder in melee, and can see in the dark. They will search the map for syringes left behind when a player dies. If the zombie player collects two syringes, they’ll be able to return to life, though that’s only allowed once per round.

In addition to horror content for Warzone, standard Modern Warfare multiplayer will be getting spooky updates. If a player scores three kills in a single life, their head will turn into a jack-o’-lantern. Ten kills in a single life? That carved pumpkin is set ablaze.

There will also be a few visual changes to the map during certain games modes, such as scarecrows for capture points in domination, and skulls replacing the dog tags in kill confirmed.

Two new modes for the standard multiplayer will be introduced for the limited-time event, as well. Onslaughter will have players fighting over a single Juggernaught suit spawned somewhere on the map. Snipers Only will be, well, snipers only! Easy enough, right?

The Halloween modes will be in the game from October 20 to November 3, but any cosmetics earned will be usable after the event.

Is Modern Warfare 2 cross-platform?
Characters running on highway in Modern Warfare II.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II is one of the biggest first-person shooters right now. Since multiplayer is such a major component of Modern Warfare II, you might be wondering if the game features cross-platform play, which platforms the game supports, and how cross-progression works.

In this guide, we'll explain everything to know about cross-platform play in Modern Warfare II.
Does Modern Warfare II have crossplay?
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II does support crossplay on PlayStation 4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC (via Steam and Battle.net). This means regardless of your platform, you'll be able to play with users on other systems or devices. This works thanks to current Call of Duty games utilizing Activision IDs to track accounts rather than being tied to a particular platform. This does mean you must make an Activision account to play the game.

Characters on the Vondel map in Warzone.

Since Call of Duty: Warzone's release in 2020, Activision has released a number of battle royale maps -- some of which have captivated a large audience. Think Verdansk, Rebirth Island, and Fortune's Keep. Though, with the new version of Warzone (formerly referred to as Warzone 2.0), the maps haven't garnered the same positive buzz ... until now.

Alongside the release of Season 4, Activision released the new Vondel map, which takes place in an urban Netherlands city, full of various buildings, a canal, and even a public transit system (via ground or water). Vondel isn't just great, it's the best Warzone map ever made.
