For those that went out and purchased Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds and have played it to the point of insanity—and there are plenty of you out there—there’s some good news and bad. The good news is that Capcom is working on 12 new characters, 8 new stages, and some technical refinements to both the fighting and the online side, including the introduction of a spectator mode to watch fights with other gamers. All together this will push the total characters to 50 (including the downloadable characters).
The bad news is that these additions will not be available online as DLC, rather they will be part of the new retail package that will be released in November for $39.99. But if you didn’t originally purchase the original Marvel vs. Capcom 3, or if you play the game enough that another $40 won’t bother you, then huzah!
So far Capcom has only released the names of four of the 12 characters: Capcom’s Strider and Firebrand (from Ghosts ‘n Goblins), and Marvel’s Hawkeye and Ghost Rider. So who are the other eight characters? Will we have to wait weeks or months as Capcom slowly unveils each new character leading up to the release in November? No, of course not. This is the internet, so naturally all eight characters have been leaked.
Now, the double edged sword of the internet is that these could all be fake; some wild and perfectly timed hoax by someone with too much time on their hands. But since the original source was Capcom’s press website, which briefly displayed the new artwork before quickly taking it down, it is a safe bet that it is solid. The remaining eight characters will be: Capcom’s Frank West, Nemesis (Resident Evil), Phoneix Wright and Vergil (Devil May Cry). On Marvel’s side will be Dr. Strange, Iron Fist, Nova and Rocket Raccoon. No, seriously. You can see the original artwork at neogaf.com.
Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 will be available on PS3 and Xbox 360 for $39.99.
