You can get Death Stranding for free right now on PC. Here’s how

Death Stranding is currently free on PC via the Epic Games Store. Players have until May 25 to claim their copy before another mystery game is available for free.

Epic Games Store has a long history of giving out games for free. Just last month, it gave away copies of Dying Light: Enhanced Edition over Easter weekend. Death Stranding, which usually retails for $30 on Epic Games Store, is a particularly big freebie, so you’ll want to make sure you claim a copy while you can.

To get your PC copy, head over to the Epic Games Store. Scroll down to the Free Games section of the app or website and click on Death Stranding. All you have to do from there is click “Get,” sign in with an account, and that’s it. There’s no catch or strings attached — unless you’re not a fan of using Epic’s launcher.

Note that only the base edition of Death Stranding is available for free. Its Director’s Cut, which features additional content, is not free. However, it is discounted to $24 (down from $40) at the moment. That sale ends on June 15, so you’ll have more time if you want to capitalize on that.

The giveaway comes at a great time. Hideo Kojima recently revealed at last year’s Game Awards that he’s working on Death Stranding 2. We don’t know much about the sequel yet, but now’s as good a time as any to catch up on the original so you’re ready when it launches.

Death Stranding is available for free on Epic Games Store until May 25 at 11 a.m. (the site does not specify what time zone that’s for).

Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom’s sequel should go full Death Stranding
Sam Porter walks across a landscape in Death Stranding: Director's Cut.

During my The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom playthrough, I couldn’t stop thinking about Death Stranding.

Hideo Kojima’s one-of-a-kind “strand game” sprung to mind every time I crafted an ingenious device that would let me traverse Hyrule more easily. I felt like Sam Porter Bridges laying down ladders and ziplines to cut through the rough landscapes of postapocalyptic America. I kept joking to myself that Tears of the Kingdom is a strand game. The more I see players sharing their creations, though, the more serious I’m becoming about that claim.

You can get Dying Light: Enhanced Edition for free this weekend
Dying Light screenshot 2

The Epic Games Store is celebrating Easter weekend with some free games. From now until Thursday, April 13, players can get Dying Light: Enhanced Edition for free on PC.

Dying Light is a 2015 first-person survival game that has players killing zombies and parkouring around a city. The Enhanced Edition features extra content, including its 2016 expansion Dying Light: The Following. It's a well-timed freebie considering that it was developed by Dead Island developer Techland, and a sequel to that game launches in just a few weeks (though it's being handled by Dambuster Studios).

Death Stranding 2: release date speculation, trailers, gameplay, and more
Sam with grey hair.

There were plenty of hints along the way, and even some leaks by the leading man himself, but it was only made official at the Game Awards 2022 that Death Stranding 2 is on its way. Coming from the same influential and creative mind as the original, as well as the Metal Gear franchise before it, Hideo Kojima introduced the game himself. Of course, nothing about Kojima's games are straight forward, and what was revealed about Death Stranding 2 probably raised more questions than it answered. We're strapping on our boots, connecting to our BBs, and are ready to make the trek to find out everything there is about Death Stranding 2.
Release date

The trailer didn't give us a release date for Death Stranding 2, and in fact, even pointed out that this was just the game's working title and would likely change. That leads us to believe that 2023 is probably too soon to expect it, but 2024 certainly feels possible.
