DICE doesn’t plan to make with yearly Battlefield releases

DICE and Electronic Arts will drop Battlefield 3 on October 25, and for many of us that’s enough. Some people are already looking ahead though to what’s coming next; to those people, DICE has a message for you: chill.

“The business goals for us are not to release a game every year,” BF3 executive producer Patrick Bach said in an interview with GamerZines. “EA would never force us to release a game every year. I think that would dilute the vision of the franchise, and you will eventually kill the franchise by doing that.”

He goes on to admit that such an approach, which Call of Duty is known for taking, is theoretically possible. It’s not going to happen anytime soon though. “I know for sure that there aren’t any discussions about doing that,” Bach added.

All that said, there are now two fully functioning Battlefield franchises, the main one that’s coming out in October and the more character-driven Bad Company games. Might we see a new Bad Company next year instead…?

Apex Legends is introducing a new battle pass, and fans aren’t happy
Two characters face off at close range in Apex Legends.

Respawn Entertainment announced a big change coming to Apex Legends Season 22: a new battle pass system. The developer says that this will "improve" the player's experience and progression, but many fans are either confused or angry about the changes.

All the tweaks are expanded upon in a blog post, but the highlight is that there will now be two battle passes per season instead of one. All other updates are based on this one change. For instance, the level cap to get the final track item has been reduced from 110 to 60.

This new Battlefield crossover might be your best bet for more Dead Space
Issac Clarke exploring ruins in Dead Space Remake.

The Dead Space remake might've come out a year and a half ago, but Electronic Arts is bringing it back for a short time. The developer announced on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday that there will be a Dead Space crossover with Battlefield 2042.

The Season 7 event will take place from July 9-16, and will feature a limited-time mode called "Outbreak." From the short teaser posted online, it looks like your typical PvE extraction mode, where players enter an area overflowing with Necromorph enemies, kill as many as they can, and try to escape.

Your favorite video game doesn’t need a remake
The hero of Bloodborne stands tall.

When you watch as many video game showcases as I do, you start to notice some patterns in the chat. Casual requests for certain games have a way of snowballing into memes. If you watched just about any stream this June, you probably caught pleas for Hollow Knight: Silksong news, even when that didn’t make much sense. While Grand Theft Auto 6 is still the king of fan begging, I’ve noticed a rival in the wings recently: Bloodborne.

Fans of FromSoftware’s 2015 PlayStation 4 classic have begged for any scrap of news about the game over the years. Some of those demands are reasonable; requests for a PC port, a 60 frames-per-second (fps) update, or sequel seem fair considering its pedigree. But last month’s PlayStation State of Play pushed me to my limits when I saw Sony’s YouTube chat floodied with chants of a Bloodborne remaster or remake.
