We finally know what Dragon Quest Treasures is and when its launching

Featured in today’s Nintendo Direct Mini, Dragon Quest Treasures is set to come to the Nintendo Switch on December 9.

Nintendo Direct Mini: Partner Showcase | 6.28.2022

Dragon Quest Treasures is a spinoff of the long-running JRPG series that will be centered around Erik and his sister Mia from Dragon Quest 11 as children treasure hunters exploring the world in search of loot. Originally announced during the series’ 35th anniversary in May of 2021, Dragon Quest Treasures was not confirmed to be coming to Nintendo’s handheld until June’s Nintendo Direct Mini: Partner Showcase.

The video showed the siblings exploring by boat, on foot, and even via flying trains. A major difference in this spinoff is the ability to recruit the iconic monsters from the series to your team. They will help in locating treasure, can be ridden as mounts, and used to help traverse the environment.

Loot you pick up can be brought back to your base and evaluated for its worth and exchanged for gold that can be used to purchase upgrades.

The last Dragon Quest game to come to Switch was Dragon Quest 11 S: Echoes of an Elusive Age — Definitive Edition in 2019, one year after it launched on other platforms. This version included more language settings, an improved soundtrack, more Draconian Quest options, and an entire 2D mode that changes the 3D graphics into sprites reminiscent of the classic Dragon Quest games.

Despite being a spinoff, Dragon Quest Treasures coming not only to Switch at launch, but to the West in general, is a major step forward for this series that is one of the few that still staggers its home Japanese release from the rest of the world. Hopefully this is something we can continue to look forward to with future entries in the series.

Dragon Quest Treasures shows off monster-catching gameplay
Dragon Quest Treasures Erik and Mia

Square Enix has released a new gameplay trailer for Dragon Quest Treasures, a spin-off that features younger versions of siblings Erik and Mia from Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age. It gives us the first in-depth look at what playing this game is really like.

In Dragon Quest Treasures, Erik and Mia can capture monsters and utilize their abilities both in battle and out of it. They have powerful skills that can help defeat enemies when summoned during the game's action-oriented battles, and they can also be used to make big jumps and glide to different locations in the game. As Erik and Mia are whisked away to the land of Draconia, they'll find treasure all across the region and establish a home base. The treasure they find can be appraised, and as they find more valuable loot, their rank increases.

Skull and Bones launches this fall, four years after its original release window
skull and bones release date

Ubisoft's long-delayed pirate game Skull and Bones will actually launch this year. In a gameplay showcase that gave us our first look at Skull and Bones in several years, Ubisoft confirmed that it would launch on November 8.
Skull and Bones | Gameplay Overview Trailer
The final version of Skull and Bones is a mix of Ubisoft's open-world titles, survival games, and a more detailed version of the Assassin's Creed series' naval combat. Players start with just a small ship and a spear ,but will be tasked with building up their Infamy (the main form of progression) by completing quests and taking down enemy ships on the open sea. They'll also become more powerful by finding blueprints and getting the materials to craft new ships, weapons, and armor.
Ubisoft is also emphasizing multiplayer, and players will be able to work with their friends to complete quests and even fight other players if they opt into the correct servers. Ultimately, Skull and Bones is shaping up to be an alternative to Sea of Thieves that's a bit more focused on intense naval combat. It just took Ubisoft a long time to reach that point.
Skull and Bones: Ship Combat, Customization, and Progression Gameplay
Skull and Bones has been in development since 2013, and it was first revealed at E3 2017. Back then, it was a more segmented experience with dedicated single-player and PvP modes. Skull and Bones was initially set to launch in late 2018 but was delayed again and again to the point that it was doubtful that the game would ever be released. A Kotaku report about Skull and Bones' development claims that mismanagement and a lack of a consistent vision for the game were to blame for these problems. Ubisoft refocused the project in late 2020, and it appears to be a survival-driven experience.
Ubisoft will release Skull and Bones for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Google Stadia, and Amazon Luna on November 8.
