EA Announces Games For Next-Gen Consoles

EA’s announced next generation line-up will be at the upcoming Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in Los Angeles, May 18-20, 2005.

New games from the EA SPORTS and EA brands that will be unveiled at E3 include: Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 06, FIFA 06, Madden NFL 06, NBA LIVE 06, Need For Speed Most Wanted and The Godfather. EA’s focus on character development, animation, gameplay innovation, online play, and graphics will be showcased in its next generation titles.

“EA’s diverse next generation line-up will give game players worldwide an early taste of what the next generation hardware systems can do,” said Don Mattrick, EA president of worldwide studios. “These games are so rich in terms of graphic fidelity, levels of detail in relation to characters and environments, audio, gameplay innovation and overall entertainment value that they will draw in new consumers and give even the most seasoned gamers something to cheer about. The creativity and technology combined with the talent of EA’s development teams will create a new era in videogame design. This next generation of games will hoist interactive entertainment to an unprecedented position on the entertainment ladder.”

Try these 6 excellent, free PC game demos during Steam Next Fest

Every couple of months, Valve holds a Steam Next Fest event on Steam. During that time, lots of indie developers briefly release demos of their upcoming titles to gain more in-development feedback on their games and build some prelaunch hype for the titles. We love trying out some of these games and rounding up our favorites each time a Steam Next Fest rolls around. This year, we've already talked about how two climbing game demos really stuck out to us, but that's not all that's worth checking out.
There were six more indie game demos that we tried and fell in love with during the June 2023 Steam Next Fest. From a sci-fi hospital sim that's full of character to a game about cleaning up trash and gunk underwater, these are six of our favorite Steam Next Fest games that you should check out before the event ends at 10 a.m. PT on June 26.
Saltsea Chronicles

The latest game from Mutazione and Sportsfriends developer Die Gute Fabrik, Saltsea Chronicles is an adventure game about the motley crew of a ship looking for their captain throughout a flooded world. Digital Trends actually had the chance to try the demo early at Summer Game Fest Play Days this year. We came away impressed with its witty writing and gorgeous art, and we were even surprisingly good at its optional card game called Spoils. If you're a fan of adventure games, definitely give this demo a shot.
Saltsea Chronicles is in development for Nintendo Switch, PC, and PlayStation 5. It will be released sometime later this year.

Rumors of a Nintendo Switch 2 (or Switch Pro) have been circulating for years. Whispers of the next-gen Nintendo console first started when The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom was first teased in 2019, gained steam when the Switch OLED launched in 2021, and are increasing now that the standard Switch has been out for six years.

There's no doubt that the Nintendo Switch is a fantastic console -- it has a unique and impressive game library (with more upcoming games slated for this year), the number of features included with Nintendo Switch Online is constantly improving, and it's still our favorite portable console -- but it isn't without its flaws. There's enough room for improvement that would warrant an entirely new console in the near future. Nintendo recently announced that we won't see a Switch upgrade in the next fiscal year, meaning the absolute earliest we get a look at a new Nintendo console would be in late 2024.
