EA Releases Dead Space “The Jump” Video

The original Dead Space had was a hit for several reasons.  It had the scare factor, it looked great, and the gameplay was solid.  It also had some jaw-droppingly cool scenes, many of which involved the protagonist, Isaac Clarke, standing in space, fighting through zero-g sections.  Unfortunately those sections were few and far between, but they still stood out.  If you played the original, odds are you remember running on the hull of the USG Ishimura, dodging incoming meteoroids, or walking through a shattered piece of the ship and coming across a view of a moon with a large hole in it.  Not that the whole game wasn’t good, but the zero-g sections really added something to the game.  It seems that EA agrees, and Dead Space 2 will feature several sections in space.

The new trailer, “The Jump”, shows off a few new zero-g functions, including tiny thrusters on Isaac’s suit, as well as a chair designed to propel people into space.  Other than a descent into the infected city of the Sprawl, it isn’t clear exactly what the trailer is showing, but at E3, Dead Space‘s developers did promise more action in space, and discussed one particular section that will see Isaac leave the Sprawl to jump to an orbital power relay, where he must reactivate sections of the besieged city.  That may not be connected to the scene here, but it still sounds very cool.

In the sequel, Isaac wakes up in the Sprawl to discover that the Necromorph infection has turned the city into a growing morgue, filled with the dead and the transformed.  Isaac is also still suffering from the mental effects caused by the marker.  The Unitarian Church is also said to have a bigger role than in the first game, but beyond that details are sparse.

The sequel is due out on January 25 for PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.

Try these 6 excellent, free PC game demos during Steam Next Fest
A train passes a windmill in Station to Station

Every couple of months, Valve holds a Steam Next Fest event on Steam. During that time, lots of indie developers briefly release demos of their upcoming titles to gain more in-development feedback on their games and build some prelaunch hype for the titles. We love trying out some of these games and rounding up our favorites each time a Steam Next Fest rolls around. This year, we've already talked about how two climbing game demos really stuck out to us, but that's not all that's worth checking out.
There were six more indie game demos that we tried and fell in love with during the June 2023 Steam Next Fest. From a sci-fi hospital sim that's full of character to a game about cleaning up trash and gunk underwater, these are six of our favorite Steam Next Fest games that you should check out before the event ends at 10 a.m. PT on June 26.
Saltsea Chronicles

The latest game from Mutazione and Sportsfriends developer Die Gute Fabrik, Saltsea Chronicles is an adventure game about the motley crew of a ship looking for their captain throughout a flooded world. Digital Trends actually had the chance to try the demo early at Summer Game Fest Play Days this year. We came away impressed with its witty writing and gorgeous art, and we were even surprisingly good at its optional card game called Spoils. If you're a fan of adventure games, definitely give this demo a shot.
Saltsea Chronicles is in development for Nintendo Switch, PC, and PlayStation 5. It will be released sometime later this year.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 finally gets its fall release date at Summer Game Fest
Spider-Man Peter Parker and Miles Morales fighting Kraven and henchmen

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 officially has a release date. During the Summer Game Fest, Insomniac Games revealed that the game is scheduled to release on October 20 as a PlayStation 5 exclusive. The stream also featured a few new details about the game, including new information about its villains.

Spider-Man 2 recently appeared at the May 2023 PlayStation Showcase, so it wasn't surprising that there wasn't any new footage at the Summer Game Fest. However, Insomniac presented new concept art, including one with Peter Parker and Miles Morales fighting side by side and another with the two Spider-Mans fighting Venom.

The Outer Worlds 2: release date speculation, trailer, and more
A person in a spacesuit looks out over and alien landscape in the trailer for The Outer Worlds 2.

Not to be confused with The Outer Wilds, the indie title that launched in the same year as The Outer Worlds, The Outer Worlds 2 is an upcoming sequel to the dystopian sci-fi RPG from Obsidian Entertainment, which Xbox announced during E3 2021. The original game was often referred to as a Fallout game but in space, which makes sense because Obsidian was responsible for what many consider one of the best, Fallout: New Vegas. It was a well-received game, though not without some flaws, leading many to wonder whether or not this new universe would ever come back. Many (including us) were surprised to see news about this game, and while there isn't much to go on just yet, we can make a few informed guesses on details we will get later on. For now, here's everything we know, and suspect, about The Outer Worlds 2.
Release date

The initial reveal not only didn't have a release date, but was itself a parody of teaser trailers that have little to no information in them. All we can do for now is speculate on when we think The Outer Worlds 2 will actually be ready. The Outer Worlds came out near the end of 2019, but the last chunk of DLC for the game didn't hit until the end of 2021. The best-case scenario would be that a smaller team handled the DLC while another small team got to work on preproduction on the full-fledged sequel, but it is also possible that there was a gap of time before it was actually greenlit.
