In Far Cry Primal, it’s ‘kill or be killed’

Far Cry Primal might not have the sniper rifles, rocket launchers, and flamethrowers of the previous games, but there are still plenty of ways to defend yourself in Ubisoft’s take on the Stone Age. A new trailer shows just exactly protagonist what Takkar can use to fight both the humans and the beasts that want him dead.

“Takkar and his people are at the very bottom of the food chain, threatened by man and beast alike,” the narrator says. “To overcome his many foes, Takkar has powerful weaponry at his disposal.”

Glimpses of the clubs and spears Takkar can use have been shown in past gameplay demonstrations and trailers, but it’s the bow that’s the star of the show this time around. An upgrade allows for you to fire two arrows from the bow at once in a similar fashion to Rise of the Tomb Raider. And like the berserk darts found in several of the Assassin’s Creed games, “berserker bombs” cause enemies to fight each other. It’s not clear, however, if the latter is limited to only human enemies, or if it can be used to cause packs of animals to launch into a civil war.

Primal is putting considerable emphasis on Takkar’s “Beast Master” abilities, which allow him to tame animals to do his bidding, and the developers couldn’t resist putting the most annoying animal from Far Cry 4 in the game: the badger. The fearless creature is shown scaring away a bear in the trailer. If badgers can actually do that, I never want to go outside again. And that’s during the day — the world of Far Cry Primal will be even more dangerous at night, when beasts roam the landscape looking for fresh meat.

Far Cry Primal will do everything in its power to kill you on February 23, provided you have an Xbox One or PlayStation 4. If you have a PC, you’ll have to wait until March 1.

Far Cry 6 Supremo Backpack Guide: All backpack abilities and where to find them
Two Far Cry 6 players shoot in co-op.

You can play stealthy, guns blazing, or some combination of the two in Far Cry 6. The open-world nature of the game lets you tackle objectives as you see fit, so long as it involves killing everyone in your path, that is. To facilitate this mass carnage, all in the name of freeing Yara from the clutches of an evil dictator mind you, you will be given many tools of destruction and mayhem. Guns will be your standard, faithful method for dishing out justice, but they're far from your only option. A new tool that Far Cry 6's protagonist has access to almost right away is the Supremo Backpack, which can instantly turn the tides of a firefight in your favor.

Supremo Backpacks come in many different forms, seven to be exact, and each has its own ability. Some are more offensive-focused, while others have more support or situational uses, but all are very powerful and worth collecting. Each ability has a meter that must be charged to use it, either by waiting or filling it up faster by getting kills with your traditional weaponry. You will be given one automatically, but the rest have to be unlocked and purchased. The only exception is the final Supremo, which you need to go out of your way to find. If you want to be fully equipped to face the Yaran military forces, follow our guide here on all the Supremo Backpack abilities and how to get them in Far Cry 6.
