Far Cry Primal lets you tame wolves and ride a mammoth

Far Cry Primal – Gameplay Walkthrough [EUROPE]
The Far Cry series has garnered a reputation for vicious wildlife that is often far more dangerous than the pirates and militia scattered throughout the map, with the eagles in Far Cry 4 being a particular annoyance. However, in

Far Cry Primal, protagonist Takkar will be able to use these beasts to his advantage. And yes, you can make him ride a mammoth.

In a developer video from Ubisoft Montreal and Ubisoft Toronto, we see Takkar toss bait in front of a wolf before approaching it and conducting a sort of Jedi mind trick to make it tame in a matter of seconds.

As with the more “traditional” entries in the series, Far Cry Primal puts a large emphasis on hunting to craft items, but you don’t have to do it alone this time. Your tamed animals can help take down your prey, but hunting should be done with caution, as dead animals can attract far more dangerous predators. Of course, if you’re skilled enough, this can be a strategy to quickly gather resources.

If you’re more interested in a stealthy approach, then Far Cry Primal has something very special. Forget about Ghost Recon; this game has owl recon. By using a bird call, you can summon an owl that can be steered around over enemy encampments, giving you information on nearby enemies before you go in for the kill. And if you’re more interested in using an owl as an ambush device, you can also make it drop fire bombs on enemies below (I’m not sure where it’s keeping them).

Far Cry Primal launches for Xbox One and PlayStation 4 on February 23, 2016, with a PC release following on March 1. Ubisoft has also recently announced the “Deluxe Edition” of the game, which contains extra missions centered around the mammoth, as well as an unbreakable “Blood Shasti” club.

Far Cry 6: How to play co-op multiplayer
Two players ride horses in Far Cry 6.

No one expects you to overthrow the Yaran dictator and liberate the nation all on your own. Sure, there are other guerilla fighters on the island and even some awesome animal Amigos who can join you in your fight, but there's no substituting another real person by your side. Past Far Cry games have had various forms of multiplayer, including traditional PvP modes, isolated competitive co-op missions, and full-blown co-op play. This latest installment brings things back to basics with a simple, yet fully robust, co-op multiplayer function.

If you want to dive right into multiplayer co-op, there are a few hurdles you need to clear before you can team up with a friend or stranger for some destructive fun. Once you do get connected, though, the entire world will be open for your enjoyment. That includes all the missions, even story-focused ones, so you can effectively play the majority of Far Cry 6 as a co-operative experience. If you're eager to liberate the island with a pal by your side, here's how to play co-op multiplayer in Far Cry 6.

Far Cry 6 will taunt you with emails if you stop playing it
Anton and Diego from Far Cry 6.

Anyone who has played Far Cry 6 and decided that they've had enough of Yara may find some condescending emails in their inbox straight from Ubisoft itself. The company is apparently sending out emails to anyone who has played the game (and subsequently made a Ubisoft account), taunting them into playing the game more.

Far Cry 6 Amigos companions guide: How to unlock, perks, abilities, and more
A small dog named Chorizo from Far Cry 6.

The more recent Far Cry titles have all straddled a line between mostly serious and dark main stories with wild and over-the-top gameplay. Far Cry 6 places you in the role of a freedom fighter trying to overthrow an oppressive government run by a corrupt dictator, but in between those main campaign missions are plenty of opportunities for off-the-wall antics and mayhem. It's thanks to that balance that the game doesn't become too self-serious and remains fun to play for the dozens of hours you can spend roaming the map completing optional objectives and searching out all the collectibles.

One of the wackiest new mechanics in Far Cry 6 is called Amigos. In past games, you could occasionally recruit other soldiers to fight with you, and in Primal even tame a wild animal to temporarily join you. Now there are uniquely named animal companions that you can unlock and take with you on your fight against the military powers of Yara. Each Amigo has its own advantages and abilities that you can level up to make them even more powerful. Plus, some are just downright adorable. Here's a full breakdown of all seven Amigos to unlock in Far Cry 6, including the DLC ones.
