Nintendo has another Direct set to air today (Wednesday, February 9), about four months after its last showcase. Although the Direct was revealed out of the blue by the gaming giant, as they always are, it was somewhat predictable. Nintendo has typically had at least one Direct showcase in February since 2018.

Tune in 2/9 at 2 p.m. PT for a #NintendoDirect livestream featuring roughly 40 minutes of information mainly focused on #NintendoSwitch games launching in the first half of 2022.

When is the February Nintendo Direct

Today’s Nintendo Direct is set to air at 2 p.m. PT and will run for a whopping 40 minutes. That’s longer than Direct showcases usually go, matching the length of Nintendo’s 2021 E3 presentation.

How to watch the February Nintendo Direct

As always, there are a couple of options for watching Nintendo’s next Direct. The full show can be watched either on Nintendo’s YouTube channel or its Twitch channel. Regardless of which you pick, you’ll be getting the same show, although sometimes one can be decently ahead of the other. If you want to keep up with the show as it rolls out, be sure to check between the two to see which is further along.

What to expect from the February Nintendo Direct

With a total of 40 minutes to burn through, Nintendo is sure to bring a lot of games to the table during today’s Direct showcase. While it’s not clear if the company will be announcing anything — though it does have a habit of shadow dropping games from time to time — it has plenty of titles slated for the first half of 2022 to talk about. In March alone, Triangle Strategy and a new Kirby game, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, are set to launch.

Other titles announced for the Switch that are supposed to release this year could also finally get their launch dates, like Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope or Splatoon 3.

Of course, there are a few wild cards that could also show up, although these games are more of a reach. Bayonetta 3 and Sonic Frontiers are both supposed to launch this year, although neither has a launch date. Both could easily end up as early summer releases. Hollow Knight: Silksong could also potentially show up as part of today’s showcase, but at this point, betting on that isn’t too safe.

PlayStation Showcase 2023: how to watch and what to expect
Miles Morales and Peter Parker stand together in Spider-Man 2.

It's been a very long time since the last PlayStation Showcase. While Sony has held tons of smaller State of Play streams over the years, it doesn't often host Nintendo Direct-sized events that give a wide picture of what's coming to the PS5. That'll change later today when the company hosts a proper PlayStation Showcase, just a few weeks before Summer Game Fest.

Details on what we'll see at the event are sparse, even hours ahead of the showcase, but there's a lot we can already predict. You won't want to miss out on this one, so here's everything you need to know so you can catch it when it right when it airs.
When is PlayStation Showcase?

Don’t expect a Switch Pro or new Nintendo console within the next year
preorder legend of zelda tears the kingdom nintendo switch oled gameplay

If you were hoping that a new Nintendo console was right on the horizon after the release of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, think again. Nintendo has confirmed that it plans to release no new hardware over the next 12 months.

On May 9, Nintendo shared its financial results for the last fiscal year with investors. Console and software sales both lagged by a bit compared to the year before, with Nintendo crediting a semiconductor shortage and a weaker holiday season for that. Looking to the next year, the company hopes to sell 15 million new Nintendo Switch consoles on top of the 125.62 million that are already out there. Those forecasts are all based on existing hardware, according to a report by Bloomberg.

Final Fantasy XVI | State of Play | April 13, 2023 [ENGLISH]
What to expect
Unlike 2023's previous State of Play, today's showcase is focused on just one game: Final Fantasy XVI. Developed and published by Square Enix, this title has gotten a lot of attention from press previews and a PAX East panel over the past couple of months, and this live stream will likely only expand on the information about the game that we've gotten from those.
Specifically, the PlayStation Blog post about this Final Fantasy XVI presentation says that it'll specifically dive deeper into the "dark fantasy setting, the powerful Eikons and the Dominants who house them, and the flashy battle system." After this State of Play, it seems like everyone should have a very clear idea of what to expect from Final Fantasy XVI if they didn't already.
