Fortnite gets new monthly subscription service, Fortnite Crew

Fortnite is getting a monthly subscription starting on December 2. The new Fortnite Crew service will give players bonus V-Bucks and additional extras every month.

The service costs $12 a month and launches alongside Chapter 2, Season 5. Players can subscribe through the game’s item shop or battle pass purchase screen when the new season launches in December.

Fortnite Crew grants players access to each season’s battle pass. Those who already own the current battle pass when subscribing will have 950 V-Bucks returned to their account. If a player terminates their subscription before a season ends, they’ll still keep their current battle pass.

The service gives players a handful of monthly perks. Subscribers receive 1,000 V-Bucks every month, as well as an exclusive outfit bundle. Monthly outfits come with one additional accessory, such as an emote or pickaxe. Subscribers will keep any outfits they gain through the service, even after their subscription ends.

Players who sign up for December receive Galaxia, the empress of the cosmos. The character comes with an additional outfit, plus a Cosmic Llamacorn Pickaxe and the Fractured World Back Bling. Epic will reveal exclusive content included in the service before the start of each month.

The service is practical for hardcore Fortnite players, but the price may raise eyebrows. The game’s seasonal battle passes currently cost $10, with a $25 option for those who want to automatically unlock the first 25 tiers. Fortnite seasons tend to last two to three months, which means that the service could have players paying up to $48 a month for each season’s pass. The extras sweeten the pot for anyone who spends money on V-Bucks consistently, but it’s a potentially pricey option for more casual players.

Fortnite’s current Marvel-themed Nexus War season concludes on December 1, after which players can subscribe to Fortnite Crew.
