‘Fortnite’ has already been downloaded over 2 million times on Nintendo Switch

On June 12, Nintendo revealed that Fortnite: Battle Royale was coming to the Switch that very same day, giving players yet another platform on which to play the biggest game in the world. It appears to have been a massive success for developer and publisher Epic Games, as the game has already amassed more than 2 million downloads.

Speaking to Polygon, Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aimé revealed that Fortnite managed to accomplish the feat in less than 24 hours, and said it “speaks to the power of the franchise, the engagement of [Nintendo’s] players and the resonance of being able to play it anytime, anywhere.”

Players can currently compete in Fortnite: Battle Royale on iOS as well, but the Switch offers a chance to be more competitive thanks to its traditional control scheme. The game is also scheduled to come to Android devices later this summer, making it available on pretty much everything except Amazon Alexa.

It’s a strategy that contrasts with PUBG Corporation and Bluehole’s approach for PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, which is currently only available on Xbox One, PC, iOS and Android. The games don’t support cross-platform play, and both the Xbox One and PC versions are paid. PUBG Mobile, meanwhile, is free and supported with microtransactions.

Not everyone is playing nice with Nintendo on Fortnite, however. Those who previously played the game on PlayStation 4 were alerted upon booting up the Nintendo Switch version that their accounts were incompatible, and they would not only be separated from PlayStation 4 players, but would have to create new accounts if they wished to continue on Switch. Microsoft has taken the opposite approach with Xbox One and Nintendo Switch, releasing Minecraft on the system and even offering Xbox achievements in the game.

Hopefully, Sony reverses course and allows all Fortnite players to connect together. We know it’s technically possible, as Xbox One and PlayStation 4 crossplay was enabled accidentally in September.

Fortnite currently has more than 125 million players across its various platforms. It shows no signs of stopping, and with the quick content updates and additions Epic Games has offered over the last few months, it certainly deserves its success — even if we weren’t too keen on it.

Every new chapter of Fortnite is a massive event. While seasonal changes bring plenty of minor tweaks and additions, it's almost always when a new chapter rolls around that major overhauls or new mechanics are introduced. Fortnite Chapter 4 was no exception, and aside from the extreme changes the island underwent, it brought one very important change to gameplay that makes a huge difference when going for that elusive victory royal (it isn't easy to win Fortnite, after all).

Augments, well, augment the game. There are a few challenges that somewhat introduce what these are, but they leave out almost all the important details for you to find out on your own. Augments need to be considered, and deeply understood, not only for when you get them yourself but to know what new tricks your opponents could have up their sleeves. Before you get taken by surprise, here's a complete breakdown of how to unlock augments and how they work in Fortnite.
What are augments in Fortnite?
Augments, or Reality Augments, are a new perk system introduced into Fortnite. There are currently 20 augments in the game, but there are 32 total that cycle in and out with each Season. You can get access to multiple augments during a single match, but augments do not carry over after a match is finished, whether you win or lose. These perks can range from modifying certain weapon types to granting buffs for performing actions, and much more. There are no bad augments, so you will want to get as many as possible. Augments also have their own tab in your menu where you can see which ones you've had so far to track your progress using them all.

Since Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0's launch, Activision has slowly made improvements to the shooter, with each season being more fun than the last. It's been a slow burn, but with the launch of Season 3 Reloaded, Warzone 2.0 finally feels like it's in a decent spot. There's still much to improve upon, but given the sheer number of fixes and quality-of-life features that have been added with the latest season, I'm finally optimistic about the future of this game.
Ranked is surprisingly fun

The most notable addition to Season 3 Reloaded is Ranked, a mode that has been highly requested since the original Warzone. This features a robust ranking system that gives players a greater incentive to improve and perform well, while also adding a much more competitive feel. Since the original Warzone days, there has always been a lack of incentive to improve. Sure, winning a match is a rush, but after pouring hundreds of hours into the game, it's easy to get bored. With Warzone Ranked, climbing the ranks places you into different categories, from Bronze all the way to Iridescent and Top 250, while also yielding cosmetic rewards along the way. Each subsequent ranking places you into slightly more skilled lobbies, adding a bit more challenge as you climb.
