As part of Fortnite’s season 5, week 12, you’ll have yet another set of challenges to complete. One of the more mysterious challenges sends you on a quest to find a family portrait from a shipwreck. Before being able to tackle this objective, there are a few things you must do first. Like many challenges throughout season 5, this week’s set comes in stages, meaning you must complete the previous one before moving onto the next.
In this case, you must complete stages 1-3, which require you to deal damage within 15 seconds of gliding; visit Scenic Spot, Gorgeous Gorge, and Mount Kay; and destroy inflatable tubemen across gas stations. Once you’ve completed those stages (in that order), you’ll be able to move on to stage 4, for finding a family portrait from a shipwreck. In this guide, we’ll show you where to find the portrait to complete the challenge with ease.

Where to find a family portrait from a shipwreck
The first thing you should know about this challenge is that there are multiple portraits and shipwrecks you can visit to complete it. Check the map above for reference (thanks, Fortnite.gg). The two main spots are to the west of Sweaty Sands in the northwestern section of the map, or to the southeast of Catty Corner in the lower right portion of the map. You’ll find portraits at each of these locations, but for the challenge, you only need to collect one of them.
With that in mind, you should pick whichever spot makes the most sense in relation to the path of the Battle Bus at the start. From our experience, the southeastern area is the least busy, so give that one a try if it’s on the way. And it’s best to do this in a Team Rumble match so you can give it another go if you die.
Once you arrive, you’ll find a shipwreck (as mentioned in the challenge’s description), with a ton of debris and items scattered about. Close to the overturned boat on the southern side of this area are some wooden crates, along with a portrait of a woman. Simply interact with it by pressing Square on PlayStation, X on Xbox, or Y on Nintendo Switch to gain credit for this challenge. In this particular location, there’s also a second portrait just to the north, so if you miss the first one for whatever reason, you’ll have another option if you choose to land here.
This will likely be one of the last challenges you complete for the week, as it’s the final one that requires you to visit a mysterious location. Either way, once you interact with one portrait, you’ll earn 20,000 XP.
