Fortnite season 5 week 6 challenge guide: How to blow up fishing holes at Sharky Shell, Sweaty Sands, or Flopper Pond

This week’s Fortnite challenges require you to do some fishing, but not in the traditional way you’d expect. For season 5 week 6, you’ll be introduced to a new set of challenges from an NPC named Turk — one of which sends you on a quest to blow up fishing holes at Sharky Shell, Sweaty Sands, or Flopper Pond. It’s somewhat of a pain, because getting ahold of explosives is usually down to luck, but there is a sure-fire way to get your hands on the necessary tools to complete this challenge.

In this guide, we’ll show you everything you’ll need to know about blowing up fishing holes at Sharky Shell, Sweaty Sands, or Flopper Pond as easily as possible in Fortnite.

How to blow up fishing holes

By far, the easiest way to complete this challenge is to head to Sharky Shell, which is found in the northwestern section of the map, to the northeast of Coral Castle. It’s called Sharky Shell for a reason — indicated by a massive shark structure on the west side and a ton of sharks. What you want to do is land just across from that at a dock, where you’ll find a motorboat. Use this motorboat’s explosives to complete the challenge. In total, you must destroy three fishing holes.

Fishing holes at Sharky Shell

For the purposes of the challenge, stay in this area and look for groups of fish indicated by a swirl of white water on the surface. All you need to do is shoot them, but you need to be careful of the sharks in this area. The other thing to note is that you have to stick to the west side of this area — as close to Sharky Shell as possible — or it won’t count. We experimented a bit and were able to find many fishing holes that were too far to the east of Sharky Shell, meaning they didn’t count.

Ideally, you should be relatively close to the shark structure. We had luck actually going inside the cave itself, as it guarantees the fishing holes will count if you blow them up. The other thing we should mention is that it’s somewhat tricky to actually land your shots with the boat correctly. That’s because the explosive doesn’t necessarily go where the crosshair indicates — especially when aiming down. What you need to do is aim farther down than you’d expect, to ensure you connect with the fishing hole.

You should also watch out for other players. We advise you to coordinate with your team to make it easier, so they can watch your back as you attempt the challenge. During our attempts, we ran into several players in this location. If it becomes too much to deal with, you can either visit the other locations — Sweaty Sands or Flopper Pond — or simply wait a few days or even weeks before trying it again. Once you’ve destroyed three fishing holes across any of the listed locations, you’ll gain credit for completing the challenge, along with 20,000 XP.

Fortnite Guardian Shield: locations and how to use
Guardian Shield in Fortnite.

In January, Epic Games introduced a handful of new changes, including the removal of many Christmas-themed items, and its first new item of 2023: the Guardian Shield, which adds another layer of strategy when used correctly. This new item is tied to a series of in-game challenges, incentivizing players to give it a try. But where can you find the Guardian Shield and how does it work?
Where to find the Guardian Shield

Unfortunately, there isn't a way to guarantee getting a Guardian Shield, as they appear as random drops from chests across the map. With that in mind, we suggest visiting high-traffic areas that contain lots of chests -- preferably spots with Oathbound Chests. These are the large white chests that contain rarer loot and can be found in main hubs that aren't covered in snow, such as The Citadel. Regular chests yield Guardian Shields, too, though. We had luck finding them at Lonely Labs, but other areas contain the Guardian Shield, as well. You can also pick one up from eliminated enemies.
