Fortnite challenge guide: Hunt raptors

One of the new challenges as part of Fortnite season 6, week 7, sends you on a quest to hunt raptors. While the act of defeating a raptor isn’t too terribly challenging, finding them can be tricky. You might stumble across a raptor by playing naturally, while other players might struggle to even come across one.

Luckily, we’ve got all the details on how to track down and eliminate raptors to complete this challenge. Here’s how to hunt raptors in Fortnite.

Where to find raptors

The map above shows the general locations of the raptors across the map (courtesy of Fortnite.gg). Do keep in mind that raptors are living, breathing creatures, meaning they won’t stick to the exact locations indicated by the icons above. For best results, we strongly recommend landing near one of their spawns to get geared up before pursuing one. Then, explore within the general vicinity indicated above.

Try to plan your route based on the location of the storm. You don’t want to get caught out of bounds because you’ve spent too much time looking for a raptor. With that in mind, you should consider attempting this in Team Rumble, as you can respawn if you get eliminated.

It also helps if you turn on Visualize Sound Effects from the game’s settings. This will cause a visual indicator to appear on-screen when a raptor is close, helping you track its location.

Remember, for this challenge, you need to eliminate two raptors, but they don’t need to both be taken out in the same match. If you only manage to take out one, don’t worry — progress will carry over from match to match. The nice thing about this challenge is that raptors are predators, meaning they’ll aggro you, closing the gap and making them easier to see.

How to eliminate a raptor

Raptors are one of the harder new animals to defeat. They aren’t unstoppable but can hit hard and are relatively quick on their feet. That’s why we recommend coming equipped with a weapon for medium range, like an SMG or assault rifle, along with a close-range option like a shotgun.

Open fire on the raptor with your assault rifle or SMG as it approaches, and when it’s within range, swap over to your shotgun to deal high amounts of damage up close. If you have rockets or grenades, even better. It’s also smart to come equipped with full shields and health if possible, just to be safe. Finally, if you attempt this with a full squad, you’ll have an easier time, as they can watch your back and help deal damage to the raptor. Once you’ve eliminated two, you’ll earn 24,000 XP for your troubles.

Where to find each onion color in Pikmin 4
Collin saying how onions come in tons of colors in Pikmin 4.

The plant-like creatures known as Pikmin come in more shapes and colors than ever before in Pikmin 4. These colors do more than give each Pikmin a different style -- they also indicate what that type of Pikmin can do. The basic Red Pikmin, for example, is fireproof. If you haven't played the previous entries, you may not be aware of how you go about creating these various Pikmin types. The answer is the colored onions you can find scattered throughout the game. By collecting them and bringing them back to your base, you can unlock the ability to make more of a specific Pikmin type. Here's where you can find each of the onion colors in Pikmin 4.

Note that the new Glow Pikmin do not have an onion in Pikmin 4 and can only be found while exploring at night. There are also some onion colors that appear multiple times, but you only need to collect one of them to unlock the ability to make that Pikmin type.

All Flarlic locations in Pikmin 4
A Flarlic growing in a broken pot.

The Pikmin series has always highlighted the idea of commanding huge numbers of tiny creatures at once. With Pikmin 4 utilizing the power of the Switch, more Pikmin than ever can appear on screen, but that doesn't mean you can just grind out an entire army right off the bat. The game will limit you on how many total Pikmin you can control, forcing you to manage your forces between the different types. While this limitation will feel constricting at first, by collecting special plants called Flarlic, you can increase that number by 10. There are 12 total Flarlics to collect, with each stage having one on the surface and one in a cave to find, but you only need eight of them to reach the max Pikmin limit. Here's where to find all the Flarlic in Pikmin 4 so you can travel with a full army.
Sun-Speckled Terrace
The Flarlic you can find on the surface is way up north beyond the electric fence that you need Yellow Pikmin to pass. You'll need at least five Yellow Pikmin to toss up on the potted plant next to the fence in order to reach the Flarlic on the elevated mound.

The second is in the Last-Frost Cavern. Go to the top-left corner of the large northwest room and pluck it out of a sunken plant pot hidden behind some pots you need to smash.
Blossoming Arcadia
Our surface Flarlic is up north on the south side of the water and requires Blue Pikmin to bring back, or Ice Pikmin to freeze the water below it. It is tucked inside a wooden structure you need to toss some Pikmin up to collect.

Is Fortnite down? Updates and matchmaking status on July 26
Characters including Optimus Prime from Fortnite.

Is Fortnite down right now? A quick look on Twitter, as well as a message in-game, suggest that some players will have trouble getting into a match of the popular royale today, July 26.
For a multiplayer, live-service game like Fortnite, the status of the servers make or breaks the experience. The game is basically unplayable if the game goes down. That's why server issues happening today are frustrating for lots of Fortnite players, although it doesn't seem like everyone is affected.
Some players currently can't even log into the game, but if you do, a message indicating there are issues does appear in the lobby menu. "Matchmaking issues: Matchmaking is currently experiencing issues, and we are working to resolve them," the message says. Tweets from the official Fortnite Status Twitter also state that Epic Games is investigating issues players currently have with logging in, matchmaking, and using push-to-talk. That said, Fortnite's developers are "investigating a fix" and will "provide an update when this is resolved."
So, if you're planning on playing Fortnite today, know that you might run into some server issues while logging in or matchmaking. These problems don't seem to impact all players, though, as I was able to successfully get into three matches during this period.
If Fortnite is down for you, there isn't a lot you can do other than make sure the game is fully updated and that your platform's internet connection is stable. Epic Games will likely release a fix for these issues soon, and after that, everyone's Fortnite experience should be back to normal.
Fortnite is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch.
