Bad news, Ghost Recon fans. Ubisoft released its estimated third quarter sales figures for fiscal 2011 in a press brief today, and a delay is in the card. Ghost Recon: Future Solider, which had been previously set for a March 6, 2012 release, has now been pushed out into Q1 of Ubi’s fiscal 2012.
“These extra few months will allow Ubisoft’s creative teams more time to refine the experience and deliver a game that fully achieves the level of excellence that defines the Ghost Recon franchise,” the press release states.
A subsequent announcement from Ubi confirmed the final release date for Future Soldier as May 22 in North America and May 24 in Europe. The game is coming to Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Windows PC platforms, but only the two consoles will be able to participate in the game’s multiplayer beta test, which is scheduled to hit in April.
The second press release also offers some added justification for the delay from Adrian Lacey, IP development director at Ubisoft Studios France. “Today we are feature complete in our multi-player, single-player and four-player co-op campaign modes. We have made the decision to move the date in order to ensure that all these ingredients are pushed to the highest level and provide a truly unique shooter experience.”
“The Ghost Recon franchise is known for setting the standard of high definition gaming and we believe the extra couple of months will allow us to reach that goal. We would like to thank all Ghost Recon fans for their patience and look forward to unveiling some exciting new elements in the coming weeks.”
