Hulu Could be Coming to the Xbox 360

Each year there is at least one or two major surprises at E3 that catch everyone off guard. Sometimes it is a new game that no one saw coming, sometimes it is an announcement that blows us all away. Trying to stay one step ahead and predict the upcoming surprises can be a full time job, and tracking each rumor can lead to the biggest exclusive, or a waste of time. Sources and rumors come from every direction, so until the announcements are official, all stories that don’t come from official press releases should be taken with a grain of salt. With that being said, the newest rumor circulating could foreshadow one of the biggest surprises at E3- Hulu is coming to the Xbox.

Gear Live was the first to report the story, and if their source turns out to be correct, then Hulu will join the Xbox Live network and offer a model similar to Netflix’s XBL service, meaning that Hulu would charge a fee separate from the current monthly XBL charges. How those fees would be charged is unknown. It could be similar to the Zune Network that charges by the show, or it could be a monthly fee, which would be in keeping with Hulu’s plans to begin charging for its library. Or maybe it will be free! Probably not, but it would be nice.

Although still unofficial, the move does make sense both for Hulu- who has been at odds with Apple over Flash, and could use the larger audience- and for Microsoft- who have made no secret of its intention to bring more TV content to the Xbox, going so far as to suggest an exclusive channel available to XBL users. There are, however, other complications.

A source told 1Up that the software for a Hulu application on the Xbox is up and running, but an E3 announcement might be overly optimistic, as Microsoft and Hulu are still negotiating over the licensing rights for much of the programming. Since Hulu is owned by NBC, Fox, ABC and others, the legalities might keep them occupied for some time.

E3 begins on June 14 in LA.

Former PS5 exclusive Ghostwire: Tokyo Comes to Xbox Game Pass in April

Former PlayStation 5 exclusive Ghostwire: Tokyo will launch for Xbox Series X/S and Windows PC on April 12. A free update called The Spider's Thread will release on the same day for all platforms, including Xbox Series X/S, PC and PlayStation 5. The game is being added to Xbox Game Pass.

Ghostwire: Tokyo was first released on PS5 and PC on March 25, 2022. Despite Microsoft owning Bethesda at the time, preexisting agreements were honored and the game remained a timed console exclusive on PS5. The same situation occurred with Bethesda's Deathloop, which initially launched on PS5 and PC in September 2021 and then came to Xbox Series X/S a year later.

Nintendo confirms that it won’t be part of E3 2023

Nintendo has confirmed reports that it won't be participating in E3 2023, meaning the gaming trade show will be missing one of its key vendors when it returns in-person this June.
"We approach our involvement in any event on a case-by-case basis and are always considering various ways to engage with our fans," a Nintendo spokesperson said in a statement to The Verge. "Since this year’s E3 show didn’t fit into our plans, we have made the decision to not participate. However, we have been and continue to be a strong supporter of the ESA [Entertainment Software Association] and E3."
After taking 2020 and 2022 off and being digital-only in 2021, this year was supposed to mark the grand return of E3, which was once a dominant game industry trade show that attracted every big video game company. Although Sony hasn't participated since 2019, it still came as a shock in January when IGN reported that both Nintendo and Microsoft would not be attending E3 this year as well. It appears that the report is true, as Microsoft has not confirmed any E3-related events outside of its independently run Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase.
Nintendo skipping E3 2023 not only takes away a vendor that dominated the show floor in previous years, but also raises questions about whether or not the company will hold an exciting Nintendo Direct around then. While Nintendo typically holds a big showcase with lots of first-party game announcements around June every year, in 2022 it only held a third-party driven Partner Showcase in June. Now that we know it won't be at E3 2023, we're left to wonder when exactly then next big Nintendo Direct will be.
E3 2023 will take place between June 13 and June 16, but don't expect Nintendo, Sony, or Microsoft to have a big presence there.

Valheim finally comes to Xbox next month with full crossplay

Iron Gate Studio and Coffee Stain Publishing confirmed that the Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One versions of Valheim will finally launch on March 14. The early access Xbox Game Preview title will be included as part of the Xbox Game Pass subscription when it releases on consoles, as it is already available via the PC version of the service.

The announcement came as part of IGN's 2023 Fan Fest event. In addition to a release date announcement, we also saw a gameplay trailer showing it running on Xbox Series X, which seemed on par with how the game runs on higher-end PCs. We also learned that Valheim will support full crossplay between PC and Xbox consoles when it finally launches. This release marks the first time Valheim will be available on console since the fantasy survival game rose to popularity in early 2021. For the time being, this also means that Valheim is an Xbox console exclusive.
