Ubisoft responds to Assassin’s Creed Shadows online backlash
The two heroes of Assassin's Creed Shadows stand side by side.

Ubisoft is addressing backlash it's received from players about one of Assassin's Creed Shadows' main characters with a lengthy statement concerning how it handles history.

The studio released the statement on X (formerly Twitter) and on its website, saying that it's received criticism from a lot of areas, including Japanese players who leveled accusations at the developer for skewing history with Yasuke, a legendary African samurai who's one of the game's two main playable characters, the other being the Japanese shinobi Naoe. In response, Ubisoft stated that its Assassin's Creed games are primarily historical fiction made with the help of historians, other experts, and in-depth research.

Ubisoft delays its Rainbow Six, The Division mobile titles … again

Ubisoft's mobile titles are getting even more delays. In its Q1 financial report released Thursday, the company announced that Rainbow Six Mobile and The Division Resurgence have been delayed out of fiscal year 2025, meaning they're now set for at least later next year. The company says this is to "ensure that these experiences deliver on expectations with optimized KPIs in the context of a demanding yet very large market."

Both mobile titles, which Ubisoft says are full versions of their respective games but built from the ground up for touchscreens, have been delayed multiple times. Rainbow Six Mobile was announced in 2022, and was expected to release later that year after a closed beta. The year came and went. The team updated players in March that it would be pausing the open beta soft launch rollout to "focus our efforts on enhancing key elements based on community feedback."

Ubisoft has been taking strides to tweak how it creates open-world games, and that appears to be continuing with Star Wars Outlaws. In an IGN interview published Tuesday, Massive Entertainment developers detailed how a lot of the upcoming game's features were made, and that includes how it handles open-world exploration

Julian Gerighty, Massive creative director, gave more details on how it'll feel to traverse the different planets and moons featured in the game. While many of Ubisoft's worlds have felt too large, Massive seems to have taken a subtle, new approach that could make a big difference. It took into account not only how players will travel on foot but also by speeder.
