Kingdom Hearts is about to consume your life on Steam

Square Enix announced Monday that many games in its Kingdom Hearts series are finally coming to Steam on June 13. So, if you’ve never played a Kingdom Hearts game before or just want to own it on another platform, you’re in luck.

Kingdom Hearts is an expansive, gigantic series, so not every game is coming to Steam. Some of them were mobile exclusive, for example. That said, 10 games will be available, including the mainline series, along with a bunch of side games that add details to the story.

If you don’t want to buy each game, or are just interested in more of the lore, Square Enix has also included Kingdom Hearts χ Back Cover and a couple of other cutscene compilations. The publisher will also be releasing the Kingdom Hearts Integrum Masterpiece, which includes all the games above and the compilations.

There’s also an announcement trailer, and while it doesn’t feature any exclusive information, you can listen to Simple and Clean, the famous Kingdom Hearts theme, which has been re-recorded and performed by Hikaru Utada.

The Kingdom Hearts series has been on PC since 2021, but it was exclusive to the Epic Games Store. It seems that exclusivity deal is ending.

Square Enix is also working on Kingdom Hearts 4, which was announced back in 2022 during the series’ 20th anniversary showcase. However, there wasn’t a lot revealed, so we’re still waiting on details.

Life is Strange: Double Exposure’s supernatural story already has me hooked

Life is Strange has always been known for deep character development and stories. The series' latest entry, Life is Strange: Double Exposure, is another example of that strength. In a 60-minute PAX West demo, protagonist Max Caufield's latest adventure hooked me in with the high stakes and tension in between testing her new universe-hopping abilities.

Double Exposure is a direct sequel to the original Life is Strange, where Max also stars as a teenage protagonist. Now, Max is a college-aged photography student at Caledon University. What originally seems like an average college experience turns into something sinister when she finds her close friend, Safi, dead in the snow. While the premise is a hook in and of itself, Max's new Shift power, puzzle solving, and branching scenarios with difficult choices also sell Double Exposure as an emotional, interactive story.

Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven puts a promising twist on turn-based RPGs

Despite the name, Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven is less about romance about more about legacy. This Square Enix remake of a non-linear 1993 RPG features an Inheritance system where protagonists eventually take the skills of another, growing stronger with each generation. It takes multiple lifetimes to take down the big bad, which might play out differently depending on who inherits the throne.

While I didn't get much time to get to know the characters themselves during a 30-minute demo at PAX West, the satisfying turn-based combat and signature Glimmer mechanic signal a strong showing for turn-based RPG fans.

In Romancing SaGa 2, seven heroes who saved the world were sealed away into another dimension, fated to return to save humanity again. They eventually make a return, but they are corrupted by the alternate dimension and decide to take revenge on the world that abandoned them.

For some, the Kingdom Hearts franchise has some of the best games of all time. For others, they're an incomprehensible mess of subtitles, timelines, and multiple people having the same name. In reality, both are true, but the latter can be easily solved by simply playing through the games in the proper order.

Of course, Square Enix hasn't made that easy, with a naming convention that defies all logic and games that jump between almost every platform. Thankfully, the games have since been consolidated into a bundle on consoles and Steam to at least put them all in one package to get players ready for when Kingdom Hearts 4 eventually comes out. If you have that game on your most-anticipated upcoming games list, or simply have always wanted to dive in but don't know where to start, let us be your guiding key.
