Is Knockout City cross-platform?

Knockout City has become a runaway success, pulling in more than 5 million players just a few weeks after its release. Unlike many other multiplayer games on the market, the “dodgebrawler” from Velan Studios doesn’t focus on guns, massive battlefields, or impressive player counts. Instead, it cuts the mayhem down to its basics — offering a simple team-based formula that’s a breath of fresh air in the current competitive marketplace.

It’s available on most last-generation and current-gen consoles, but you might be worried that you can’t jump into the action with friends who own another system. Cross-play has become a growing issue over the past few years, and only certain developers have allowed PC players to join up with their friends on Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5.

Thankfully, Knockout City features robust cross-play and cross-progression systems. Here’s what you need to know before jumping into a cross-platform match.

How cross-play works in Knockout City

A player throws a dodgeball bomb in Knockout City.

By default, cross-play and cross-progression are enabled in Knockout City. That means as soon as you launch the game, you’ll be able to play with “dodgebrawlers” on other platforms.

“With cross-play and cross-progression on PC, PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and PS5 and Xbox X|S (with backwards compatibility), you can brawl with friends anywhere, at any time,” Velan Studios announced. There’s nothing you’ll need to do to activate the feature — simply launch into a match, and you’ll be paired up with players on all available consoles.

That also means you can invite friends on other platforms to join your match. Once they’ve been added to your Knockout City friends list, simply find their banner and select Invite to Group. You can also join their Group if one is currently available.

How to turn off cross-play

If you’d rather not play with folks on another system, Knockout City gives you an easy way to turn off cross-play. Here’s what you’ll need to do:

  • Head to the main menu.
  • Scroll down to Settings.
  • Navigate to the Social Settings tab.
  • Find the Cross-Play option and select Disabled.

We highly recommend keeping cross-play turned on, as it provides a larger pool of players to sort through during matchmaking, reducing your wait time. Still, if you’re a console player who’d rather not muck around with someone on PC, Knockout City makes it easy to restrict your matches.

Knockout City includes cross-progression

Beyond cross-play, Knockout City gives you the option to transfer your character across multiple platforms. If you decide to switch up which console you’re playing on, simply sign in with your previous Knockout City ID, and all your information and progress will carry over to your new system.

That means if you’re currently playing on Xbox One and decide to upgrade to a PS5, all your hard-earned rewards will follow you. It’s a powerful feature and one that we’re happy to see included in Knockout City.

Xbox Game Pass adds one of 2022’s best racing games this month
A man leans against a car in Need for Speed Unbound.

Microsoft has revealed that games that will be coming to Xbox Game Pass throughout the rest of June and even into early July. While the list lacks any major exclusives or first-party games, a solid racing game from 2022 and some intriguing indies make it an interesting batch. Thankfully, the losses the service will suffer at the end of the month aren't too bad either.
The most notable game to hit Xbox Game Pass Ultimate during the back half of June will be Need for Speed Unbound. Coming to the service via its EA Play connection, this is a solid racing game that I gave a three-and-a-half-star review last year. At the time, I said it was "a surprisingly entertaining racer in a year that hasn’t seen much racing game excitement since Gran Turismo 7." On the indie side of things, The Bookwalker: Thief of Tales will be a day one Xbox Game Pass release on June 22. It's an isometric adventure game where the main gimmick is that players can enter the worlds of books they come across.
Former PlayStation console exclusive F.I.S.T.: Forged in Shadow Torch will also come to Xbox Series X/S via Xbox Game Pass on June 27. This is the full list of titles you can expect to come to the subscription service between today and July 5.

Need for Speed Unbound -- June 22
The Bookwalker: Thief of Tales -- June 22
Bramble: The Mountain King -- June 27
F.I.S.T.: Forged in Shadow Torch -- June 27
Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town -- June 29
Arcade Paradise -- July 3
Sword and Fairy: Together Forever -- July 5

Xbox Games Showcase and Starfield Direct: how to watch and what to expect
xbox june showcases announced starfield direct hero image 37faabd65d647fb77b68

The Xbox Games Showcase and Starfield Direct Double Feature are shaping up to be the most important video game showcases to watch this month. Across these two back-to-back showcases today, Microsoft will give us a comprehensive look at what's coming to PC, Xbox Series X/S, and Xbox Game Pass from its first-party studios and then finally give us the deep dive into Starfield that we've been waiting for since it was announced in 2018.
Because Sony has already held its PlayStation Showcase and Nintendo hasn't revealed any plans for a Nintendo Direct this month, it looks like this will be the big first-party showcase of June. With the presentation happening later today, we're laying out how you can watch the Xbox Games Showcase and Starfield Direct Double Feature and explaining what you can expect from it.
When is the Xbox Games Showcase

The Xbox Games Showcase will begin at 10 a.m. PT today, June 11. Microsoft has not said how long the Xbox Games Showcase will be this year, but previous presentations have typically been between an hour and an hour-and-a-half long.
When is the Starfield Direct
Microsoft has stated that the Starfield Direct will begin "immediately following the Xbox Games Showcase." Because we don't know how long the Xbox Games Showcase is, though, we don't know exactly when this portion of the livestream will begin. We also don't know quite how long the Starfield Direct will last. To be safe, we recommend you set aside two or three hours to watch the Xbox Games Showcase and Starfield Direct Double Feature.
How to watch the Xbox Games Showcase and Starfield Direct
Microsoft is promoting and live-streaming this pair of showcases across most of its gaming-focused social media platforms. As such, you can tune into the shows on Xbox's official YouTube, Twitch, and Facebook pages as well as Bethesda's YouTube and Twitch channels. Deaf fans can even experience the show thanks to a version of the show on YouTube with audio descriptions and stream on the XboxASL Twitch page.

All cross-platform games (PS5, Xbox Series X, PS4, Xbox One, Switch, PC)
Two squads of heroes clash in an Overwatch 2 trailer.

Cross-platform support is becoming more important in the world of video games. Multiplayer hits like Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 and Fortnite have pushed crossplay into the limelight, and now most AAA multiplayer games release with at least partial cross-platform support. Finding every cross-platform game is no easy feat, though, so we did the hard work to bring you a comprehensive list of games that support crossplay.

Unfortunately, there aren't any rules when it comes to crossplay, so each game handles the feature a little differently. To make matters more confusing, certain backward-compatible games on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X still support crossplay on the most recent hardware, even if there isn't an official release for that hardware.
