First trailer of Hideo Kojima’s new game features Norman Reedus

To everyone’s surprise, famed game director Hideo Kojima made a grand appearance at Sony’s PlayStation press conference at E3 on Monday night to unveil his new game.

Titled Death Stranding, it will star The Walking Dead’s Norman Reedus.

The trailer shows Reedus laying naked on an oil-soaked beach with dead sea life surrounding him. He picks up and embraces a crying baby, only to see that it’s gone, as if it were an illusion. Once Reedus comes to, he sees five floating objects far above him, slowly and ominously approaching.

In typical Kojima fashion, his trailer raised far more questions than it answered.

This will be Kojima’s first game since leaving his previous employer, Konami. While he developed Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, Konami and Kojima had a falling out, leading to much strife and difficulty in game development. While The Phantom Pain received universal critical acclaim, many fans felt the final act was rushed, quite possibly due to the strained relationship.

The day Kojima was eligible to do so, he, along with Andrew House, president and group CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, revealed that they would be partnering up. This was a big get for Sony, as Kojima’s next game would be exclusive to Sony’s PlayStation 4.

It seems that Kojima has taken much pride in plastering his name across the trailer. It reads a “Hideo Kojima Game” and made by Kojima Productions. This may be because Konami had removed Kojima’s name from the box of The Phantom Pain, leaving many fans stunned. There was such an outcry at his name being removed that some fans got together to reprint covers with Kojima’s name included.

A release date was not set for Death Stranding, but considering Kojima’s new studio is only six months old, it may still be far out.
