The surprise hit Life is Strange originally released as a digital-only title on the Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and PC, and a few weeks ago, publisher Square Enix announced that the game would be making its way to physical shelves, but this version was only confirmed for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4. However, it has now been confirmed that the physical version of Life is Strange will also be released on PC.
While the PC version of the Life is Strange limited edition — complete with a soundtrack CD and artbook — will still require a Steam account to run, it will still include a physical game disc, according to the official announcement from Square Enix’s Scott Blows. It will still be a little tricky to get your hands on, as it’s only being sold through the Square Enix store, and it appears that they’re limited to North America.
“Life started getting strange,” protagonist Max says with appropriate teenage angst at the end of the physical game’s teaser trailer. While I waited for Max to actually call life “strange” during the course of the game’s five episodes, she always seemed to have another word in mind, including my personal favorite: “life is … weird.”
If you’ve already completed Life is Strange and just want to get your hands on more of Dontnod’s work, then you might be in luck: according to a Reddit translation, Dontnod’s Alain Damasio announced that a sequel would be developed. This shouldn’t come as a huge surprise, given the less-than-stellar reception of the studio’s previous game, Remember Me (which we called a “vapid brawler” that “could hardly be considered anything close to art”) as well as the more flexible digital, episode release model.
The limited edition of Life is Strange launches in stores on January 19. It’s taking everything in my power not to double-dip.
