Mortal Kombat ‘Shadows’ Trailer Debuts

We haven’t heard too much about the new Mortal Kombat since it made a bloody splash at E3, but that isn’t all that surprising given that the game isn’t due out until sometime next year.

The next game will be a reboot of sorts for the franchise, but not entirely. The game will take place during the events of the first three games, after a contemporary Raiden travels back in time to change the course of events to prevent his death, and the destruction of Earth.

The new Mortal Kombat will return the game to its bloody 2D roots, with a big emphasis on gore and fatalities. The game will feature 26 or so of the favorite characters from the first three games, plus a few extras. So far only 10 or so characters have been revealed, but more should be announced soon.

Developer NetherRealm Studios (Formerly known as Midway) and Warner Bros., aren’t about to let a little thing like time stand in the way of promoting their new Mortal Kombat, so enjoy the trailer below called “Shadows,” then patiently sit back and wait for at least six months until the game is released on PS3 and Xbox 360.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League’s abruptly delayed Season 2 is still happening

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League's second season was delayed just two days before launch, but now it's on its way. Developer Rocksteady announced many of the details for the big additions in a blog post on Wednesday, including how its new character, Mrs. Freeze, will work in-game when Season 2 arrives July 25.

Season 2 centers around Mrs. Freeze -- aka Victoria Fries. She's the daughter of the original Mr. Freeze, although this is an Elseworld variant like the Joker in Season 1. In the post, Rocksteady describes her as somebody stranded on a dying world," unwilling to leave her cryogenically frozen wife behind. But after being recruited by the Squad, she may have the chance to save her -- and unleash icy hell."

Mortal Kombat 1 is about to get another new fighter. NetherRealm and Warner Bros. Games announced Monday that Takeda Takahashi, who was last seen in Mortal Kombat X, will be playable starting July 23 for Kombat Pack owners, and everybody else on July 30.

The 2023 fighting game gave its characters reworked backstories, and that's the case here. Instead of being Kenshi's son like he was in Mortal Kombat X, Mortal Kombat 1 has made Takeda Kenshi's cousin. In his new backstory, he was sent to take down Kenshi for the yakuza, but was critically wounded. Recovering as Kenshi's prisoner, he took inspiration from the Shirai Ryu and now fights with the clan's moveset.
