The musical accompaniment backing Visual Concepts’ 2015 edition of the NBA 2K series will be assembled by noted producer Pharrell Williams. Little is known about NBA 2K15 at present, but Pharrell’s musical selections should lend some welcome pop to what are traditionally beats-heavy soundtracks for thhe series. The contents of the soundtrack will be revealed later this summer.
“It was a cool experience. I tried to curate songs that were diverse but yet still proved to be motivational to gamers,” Pharrell said in the announcement. “It was important to me that the music complemented the on-court action of NBA basketball in NBA 2K15. I hope everyone enjoys it.”
Pharrell may be best known in the current moment for his work on the Grammy-nominated “Happy,” along with a number of other cuts from the Despicable Me 2 soundtrack. He’s also a founding member of N.E.R.D. and The Neptunes, and he contributed to two of the most popular cuts — “Get Lucky” and “Lose Yourself To Dance” — on Daft Punk’s 2013 album, Random Access Memories.
NBA 2K15 comes to PC and PlayStation/Xbox consoles on October 7, 2014.
