New Pokémon Snap gets trailer and April release date

New Pokémon Snap is coming to Nintendo Switch on April 30. Nintendo released a new trailer for the game alongside the announcement, which shows off more Pokémon featured in the game.

New Pokémon Snap is a follow up to the popular 1999 Nintendo 64 game Pokémon Snap. It’s an on-rails photography game where players take pictures of different Pokémon. The Switch installment was first revealed back in June, but Nintendo hadn’t released any further details about the game since then.

The game is a brand new adventure that follows the same on-rails structure of the original where players can throw fruit to lure Pokémon out of hiding. A new trailer for the game showcases some of the new Pokémon featured in the game, including Toucannon, Meganium, and Wooper. Nintendo didn’t reveal how many Pokémon are available in the new game.

In the latest adventure, players take the role of a budding photographer tasked with helping Professor Mirror survey the new Lental region. The story revolves around the Illumenia Phenomenon, which causes Pokémon to glow. Players’ photos are evaluated based on several factors including how large Pokémon are in frame, position, and pose.

The game costs $60 and will be available in both digital and physical form. Pre-orders for the game are already live across retailers.

Pokémon celebrates its 25th anniversary this year and Nintendo is expected to roll out several announcements for the occasion. It recently teased its anniversary plans with a video, which revealed that the company is collaborating with Katy Perry for a series of musical events.

Pikmin 4: release date, trailers, news, gameplay, and more
Pikmin 4 release date

When compared to Super Mario, The Legend of Zelda, and even Metroid, the Pikmin series was never a runaway success, but that hasn't stopped Nintendo from developing new installments. And we're glad, because the Pikmin series is full of wit, charm, and originality. During the September 2022 Direct, Nintendo finally unveiled the next entry, aptly titled Pikmin 4.

This announcement came nearly a decade after the previous entry, and although we don't know much about it, we're excited it's happening. The latest installment of the oddball strategy series is bringing some new features, including a brand new Pikmin type and an adorable dog companion. Positioned as the Switch's big summer 2023 release, it has the chance to get more eyes on the series than ever before.

Detective Pikachu Returns: release date, trailers, gameplay, and more

One of the more forgotten entries in the monster-catching franchise is also the most unique. Detective Pikachu was originally a 3DS game (and a feature film) that cast Pikachu as a smooth-talking (that's right, he talks!) detective that teams up with a kid named Tim Goodman to solve various mysteries. Rather than play like an RPG, this entry was more of an adventure game, focusing on story and, naturally, solving mysteries. After the success of the game and film, it was only a matter of time before a sequel was announced. That turned out to be quite a bit longer than many expected, but now that Detective Pikachu Returns has been officially announced, we've put on our caps and collected all the clues about this upcoming adventure.

Detective Pikachu Returns is right around the corner. The game will launch on October 6, 2023.
