Nintendo rarely discounts its games, but you can get them on sale now

Felicia Miranda/Digital Trends

Want to save some coin on Witcher? In a very rare move, Nintendo is offering big savings on some of the most popular games for Switch, including several of its first-party titles. If you just got the system for the holidays and have been waiting to build up your game collection, now is the perfect time.

Available starting today and running through January 16, the Nintendo New Year Sale on Amazon and the Nintendo eShop features numerous savings on Nintendo Switch games, as well as a selection of 3DS games. The very biggest games like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild aren’t included, but there are still some major games you don’t want to miss.

Hot off the first season of the Netflix series, the Nintendo Switch version of

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Complete Edition

has had its price cut from $60 to $50. The game includes all downloadable content and expansions that have released over the years and is the first time the series has appeared on a Nintendo platform. The Witcher 3 is widely considered to be one of the best video games of all time.

Yoshi’s Crafted World

, which just released in 2019, also had its price cut by the same amount. The game is the perfect platformer for younger players because of its very light difficulty, but its gorgeous paper-craft art style and charm make it enjoyable for older players, as well.

If you’ve been looking to play a fighting game on the Switch, Dragon Ball FighterZ has been discounted from $60 all the way down to $15 for the sale. The 2D fighter captures the intensity and style of the anime series and is also a tremendous competitive game in its own right.

Divinity: Original Sin 2 – Definitive Edition

is, like The Witcher 3, also an acclaimed role-playing game, and is being offered for $40 during the sale. It’s an old-school role-playing game that features deep storytelling and a ton of choices. It also supports cross-platform saving with the PC version, so you can take the same game with you on the go after playing on your PC at home.

Nintendo sales are so rare, especially to this degree, that we definitely recommend buying the games you’re been interested in while this one lasts. It could be a very long time before we see them offered at this price again.

With Immortals of Aveum getting a last-second delay, July belongs to Pikmin 4. Nintendo’s next big Switch exclusive looks to bring one of the company’s more eccentric franchises to a console that’s done wonders for oddball GameCube contemporaries like Animal Crossing. It may be the fourth installment of the series, but there’s a good chance it’ll act as an entry point for a fair amount of Switch owners.

Nintendo Switch’s weirdest launch game is getting a surprise sequel
Key art for Everybody 1-2-Switch!

Nintendo has quietly announced Everybody 1-2-Switch!, a sequel to one of the oddest launch titles for Nintendo Switch.
1-2-Switch! was a Nintendo Switch launch title that served as a tech demo of sorts for the Joy-Con controllers, with players completing minigames based on direction from actors in live-action clips. It's a very quirky and critically divisive Nintendo Switch game, so it's a bit surprising to see a follow-up. According to the eShop listing for Everybody 1-2-Switch!, this game lets players use their Joy-Cons or smartphones to complete a variety of team-based minigames. And that's about all we've seen or know about this $30 game ahead of its June 30 launch alongside some new pastel Joy-Cons.

Everybody 1-2-Switch!'s announcement was quite unorthodox for Nintendo. It simply tweeted about the game's existence and opened up preorders on the eShop. This all happened with no reveal trailer less than a month before the game's launch. It's unknown why Nintendo's taking this approach instead of including the game in a Nintendo Direct or other major showcase, but a 2022 report from Fanbyte may reveal the answer. According to that report, Everybody 1-2-Switch! tested horribly, and Nintendo worried that the game could "damage the company’s reputation as a great software developer."
Almost a year after that report, it seems that the game has improved enough to release, or maybe Nintendo is just willing to take the hit after the impressive launch and critical reception of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Either way, this is a weird sequel to a weird Nintendo Switch launch game that's being mutedly marketed so it doesn't elicit much hype. We'll just have to wait and play it for ourselves if we want to know whether Everybody 1-2-Switch! is an enjoyable game or not.
Everybody 1-2-Switch! will be released physically and digitally for Nintendo Switch on June 30.
