Fallout 4 will never come to Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3, says Bethesda

Fallout 4
When Bethesda’s upcoming Fallout 4 was announced last week, the general tone was one of excitement, but while it stayed that way for many, it wasn’t long until the Internet rumor machine kicked off. The most popular rumor was that Bethesda would be releasing a version of the game for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 to maximize sales.

In the wake of the recent outcry over the “downgrading” of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, this caused some gamers to worry that the new game wouldn’t push current hardware to its full potential, in order to allow it to be ported to the older hardware.

For those who wish to see the game developed to its full potential — fear not, as Bethesda has come out and said that this isn’t going to happen. Responding to a user in a NeoGAF thread, Bethesda community manager Matt Grandstaff put it simply: “It is not coming to 360 and PS3, the stuff we’re doing will never work there.”

Not only does this mean that we don’t have to worry about Fallout 4 not maximizing its potential — graphical and otherwise — but this puts a number of other rumors to bed as well. A now-removed post shared on Reddit nearly a year ago claimed that not only would there be a last-gen version of the game, but it would have a save transfer feature only available to players on older consoles.

As we saw in the trailer released last week, Fallout 4 will be set in Boston — a location hinted at in Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas. The overall tone of the series is still there, but this new location seems a bit more technologically advanced than the previous locations gamers have explored.

While the trailer showed off the look and atmosphere of the game, few details on how the game plays and whether we’ll see the return of VATS have been shared. We’re sure Bethesda will have a lot more of Fallout 4 to show at E3 next week, so stay tuned.

PlayStation announced that its next State of Play presentation will air at 3 p.m. PT on June 2. It'll last for about 30 minutes and focus on third-party games and PlayStation VR2 titles.

When announcing previous State of Play presentations, Sony has been very clear about what to expect in any of its specific showcases. So we can rule out any sort of first-party games like the God of War Ragnarok. The game was rated in South Korea yesterday, indicating that it could be released soon, however, it's unlikely to appear in this upcoming showcase.
