No Man’s Sky’s ‘near-impossible’ Switch port is coming this fall

No Man’s Sky will launch for Nintendo Switch on October 7, 2022, according to an announcement on the game’s official Twitter account. Physical editions for Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 5 will launch the same day alongside digital versions.

Hello Games, the team behind No Man’s Sky, first announced the Switch port in a February 2022 Nintendo Direct, with a summer release window, so October 7 is a bit later than expected. Sean Murray, founder and CEO of Hello Games, refers to the port as a “near-impossible” undertaking, but based on the footage shown, it looks to be running smoothly.

The Nintendo Switch version will come with all previously released No Man’s Sky updates at no additional cost, including the recent Frontiers, Sentinel, and Outlaws content. In total, the game has received 20 updates since it launched in 2016 and is — for all intents and purposes — a fundamentally different game now. These updates have added PvP, co-op, base building, underwater exploration, and even a horror-themed freighter mission that plays similarly to Dead Space (we’re serious).

In the Nintendo Switch release date announcement above, Murray said “there’s so much more we want to do in the future,” so No Man’s Sky will likely be supported for years to come on all platforms. We do know a PlayStation VR2 edition will launch at some point in the future. The PS4 version features support for the original PSVR.

No Man’s Sky is a unique experience, allowing you to explore 18 quintillion procedurally generated planets seamlessly, while gathering resources, trading with other players, battling deadly intergalactic creatures, and surviving the harsh climates of the worlds you encounter.

Is Baldur’s Gate 3 coming to Switch?

Few games have rocked the industry in the way that Baldur's Gate 3 did at launch, and it has been a critical and commercial success on all platforms for which it has been released. As such, it's reasonable to wonder if Larian Studios has considered bringing the hit role-playing title to the Nintendo Switch. Let's take a look and see if any plans to that effect are in motion.
Is Baldur's Gate coming to Nintendo Switch?
Baldur's Gate 3 is not available on Nintendo Switch, and there is no indication that Larian Studios has any intentions of bringing it over at this time, if ever. It has already canceled the planned DLC for the game, citing a desire to move on to new projects beyond the Baldur's Gate franchise, likely leaving the series for another developer to pick up down the line.

Speaking to IGN, the game's director, Swen Vincke, said: "We’re going to shift around and we’re going to start doing these other things that we talked about, that we planned on doing before we started on BG3. Those were always the plans for afterward, we have two games that we want to make, and we have lots of concepts. So let’s just have closure on BG3. It’s been great. We’ve done our job. It’s a story with a beginning, a middle, and an end. So let’s pass the torch to another studio to pick up this incredible legacy."

Now No Man’s Sky now has fishing, too

Everybody loves fishing minigames (so we've heard), and now No Man's Sky has one. Developer Hello Games announced a new fishing update coming to the game for free, and it will being along fish farming and a limited-time expedition.

The fishing in the Aquarius update is about what you'd expect if you've fished in any other video game. You take your fishing rod and equipment, explore different bodies of water and biomes, and see what you can catch. Different kinds of bait can also help you catch rare fish, which you can use to help fill up your fishing log. You can also compare your stats against others with an update to the Wonders Catalogue, which now includes your fishing records.
