No Pre-Christmas Wii Ads in UK UK television viewers will notice something missing in the run up to Christmas shopping. That’s because Nintendo has decided to pull its advertising forthe popular Wii console. Why? After all, this should be the busiest time of the year, as kids and adults turn in the wish lists – and the odds are thata Wii will be on many of them. But Wiis are in short supply in the UK. As soon as any store gets a few in they’re snapped up, leaving a lot of frustrated parents and relatives. The company considers that temporarily pulling its advertising is a responsible move. A Nintendo spokesman told Marketing Week, "We have beenrunning the campaign all year, but we want to take a responsible stance this Christmas and not fuel demand." Where people can buy a Wii – there are a number on eBay, for instance – the prices have rocketed far above retail.

The eShops on the 3DS and Wii U will shut down on March 27, so players are splurging on great games that they want to pick up in the final days of each storefront's life span. If you can't drop any cash on games for these systems before then though, you're probably wondering what's available from them for free. For the most part, it's demos, as the 3DS and Wii U weren't really known for their free-to-play offerings. Even then, many of the available free-to-play games -- or "free-to-start" titles as Nintendo called them in that era -- won't have much use after the eShops cease game sales because most of their content is gated by microtransactions.

Some might be a little more time-consuming due to in-game timers and other microtransactions, but are still worth checking out regardless. Resident Evil 4 is a few weeks away, but eager fans can play its opening chapter right now thanks to the newly released Chainsaw Demo. The non-timed demo allows fans to experience the upcoming remake's opening, which sees Leon S. Kennedy fending off a town full of angry villagers. It offers a taste of the full game's reworked combat system, but it also reveals some very significant story changes in the new version.

Like the original Resident Evil 4, the demo opens with a voice-over from Leon recapping previous Resident Evil games. The contents of those two openings are radically different, though.
