No talk, just watch 15 minutes of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End gameplay

Sony kicked off its PlayStation Experience fan gathering in Las Vegas with a meaty look at Naughty Dog’s Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End in action. And you know what? It sure looks like Uncharted.

Not a bad thing. Naughty Dog’s third-person action series is cut from the mold of classic Tomb Raider games, only it goes big on the Hollywood-style presentation and blockbuster set pieces. The game’s lush vistas really pop on the PlayStation 4, but the gameplay is the same, reassuringly familiar platforming-and-fighting-and-puzzle-solving.

With some new wrinkles. There’s knife-meets-porous rock wall-climbing, similar to the 2013 Tomb Raider‘s pickaxe-assisted ascents. Drake’s also got a handy grappling hook that he can use to create rope swings.

PlayStation 4 success due to culture change at Sony, says former exec

A culture change helped propel the PlayStation 4 into a successful launch, a former Sony executive revealed in an upcoming documentary.

Shahid Ahmad, who served as director of strategic content at Sony Computer Entertainment Europe at the time of his departure in 2015, was interviewed for The PlayStation Revolution, a documentary on the rise of the console that is scheduled for release on September 7.

Sony reportedly has a mostly automated factory across the bay from Tokyo, Japan that is capable of churning out a PlayStation 4 every 30 seconds.

The facility, located in the outskirts of Kisarazu across the bay from Tokyo, is described as "a large white building" that "towers over an otherwise suburban landscape," according to the Nikkei Asian Review.

PlayStation 5 backward-compatibility aims to include most PlayStation 4 games

Sony has clarified that the PlayStation 5's backward compatibility will eventually work for most PlayStation 4 games after the presentation on the upcoming console's technical specifications resulted in some confusion over the feature.

PlayStation 5 lead system architect Mark Cerny recently gave a glimpse into the highly anticipated console in a pre-recorded presentation that was originally meant for this year's Game Developers Conference. In addition to the console's technical details, Cerny said that it will be backward compatible with nearly all of the 100 most-played games on the PlayStation 4 upon launch.
