Obsidian Entertainment and Paradox Interactive have pushed back the release of their 90s-style CRPG Pillars of Eternity from late 2014 into early 2015. Pillars started its life as Project Eternity with a massively-successful Kickstarter campaign in 2012.
“Since the very beginning of this project we promised our fans and ourselves that we would release this game only when we knew it would be absolutely ready for the best experience possible,” explained Obsidian CEO Feargus Urquhart. “We’re very close to that point, but not quite there yet. The feedback we have received through our playtest process has been invaluable to us. We are coming into the home stretch but are pushing the release out just a bit to make sure we honor that promise we made originally. Thanks for your patience and support, it will be worth the wait.”

Pillars of Eternity is a party-based, tactical, fantasy roleplaying game inspired by late-90s classics in BioWare’s Infinity Engine like Baldur’s Gate, Icewind Dale, and Planescape: Torment. Although inspired by Dungeons & Dragons games, Pillars will have original mechanics and IP.
Along with the similar success of Wasteland 2 and Torment: Tides of Numenara around the same time, the people’s mandate was made clear: more tactical computer roleplaying games like there used to be in the late 90s. The former already came out in September, so that should tide fans of the genre over until Pillars arrives early next year, and Torment later on in 2015. You’ve waited almost 15 years since Baldur’s Gate II came out — what are a few more months?
