Sifu is releasing earlier than promised on PlayStation

Upcoming kung fu action game Sifu is now being released February 8, 2022, two weeks earlier than planned on PlayStation. The game was originally planned to launch in 2021.

Sifu - Updated Release Date | PS5, PS4

Sifu is a martial arts action game from developer Sloclap, the studio behind action game Absolver, that’s coming to PlayStation and PC. The game was originally supposed to hit consoles and PCs in late 2021, but was delayed to early 2022 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Sloclap says that Sifu is being pushed forward because progress is moving along well as the studio gets the game in shape to ship. Along with this release date update, PlayStation says it has two brand-new gameplay videos that show off more of the title and will be revealed today on PlayStation’s networks.

Seeing a video game’s release date get moved up is a nice change of pace, as 2021 has been abnormally packed with delays. There have been more than 30 major video game delays so far this year, and the number keeps rising.

While Sifu‘s new launch announcement focuses on the PS4, PS5, it will also be released on PCs via the Epic Games Store. Its updated release date is shared by the PC port with the Epic Games Store listing of the game showing it will hit the PC marketplace on February 8, 2022.

With its release date moved closer to the beginning of February, Sifu joins a packed month of games that will help kick off a busy 2022. Games like Elden RingHorizon Forbidden West, and the new Destiny 2: The Witch Queen expansion are dropping that month, which is great news for gamers — but bad news for their wallets.

Sifu launches February 8, 2022, on PS4, PS5, and on PCs through the Epic Games Store.

Turn your PS5 into a colorful throwback with these translucent faceplates
Purple Dbrand retro darkplates for the PlayStation 5.

Dbrand is back with new console covers, or as it calls them "darkplates," for PlayStation 5 consoles. These new Retro Darkplates are supposed to be throwbacks that mimic the colors of translucent Nintendo 64 systems.

This announcement marks the accessory manufacturer's grand return to making console covers for the PS5. Dbrand previously sold PS5 darkplates during the system's first year on the market, but Sony threatened legal action against the company. After that, Dbrand said at the time that it was forced to "submit to the terrorists' demands" and stopped selling darkplates. Sony ended up releasing colored console covers of its own in 2022. Clearly, Dbrand is now confident enough again in its product (or found a legal loophole) to start selling these darkplates for the PS5, and decided to base them on some of its viral social media posts.
These new darkplates come in four N64-inspired colors: Atomic Purple, Ice Blue, Fire Orange, and Smoke Black. The side panels are translucent, while Dbrand also provides a cover for the black center bar on the PS5, which makes it look like it's translucent as it shows an image of the system's innards. If you choose to buy a Retro Darkplates kit, you'll get one Retro Darkplate set, one hue-matched retro middle and bottom skin, three left light strips, three right light strips, and a microfiber cloth.
