Some PS3 Owners Can Use Hulu Plus Now

Some PlayStation 3 users in the U.S. will be able to try out the $9.99-per-month video subscription plan from Hulu right away.

Sony Corp. says that means the PlayStation 3 will be the only game console able to play streaming videos from Hulu this year.

Hulu plans to launch its Hulu Plus subscription service on Microsoft’s Xbox 360 early next year.

Invitations will be sent to certain subscribers of PlayStation Plus, a $49.99-a-year service that offers gamers select downloads and game trials. A wider rollout to all U.S. PlayStation 3 users is expected in the next few months.

Hulu, a joint venture between NBC Universal, News Corp., The Walt Disney Corp., and Providence Equity Partners, kicked off its premium subscription plan last month to supplement advertising revenue on its free video website and expand to more devices.

Hulu Plus subscribers can get the entire current season of “Glee,” “The Office,” “House” and other series, as well as a complete roster of past seasons from broadcasters ABC, Fox and NBC.

But paying subscribers will be shown the same number of ads as users of the free website, who can only see a few recent episodes of those shows.

PS Plus adds Evil Dead, OlliOlli World, and more in February
A still from Evil Dead: The Game showing a man holding a gun in a supermarket.

PlayStation Plus Essential's February game lineup was announced today, and it consists of four titles: OlliOlli World, Evil Dead: The Game, Mafia: Definitive Edition, and Destiny 2: Beyond Light. These games will be available to download starting February 7. Overall, this is a really solid batch of games.

OlliOlli World was one of my personal favorite games of 2022 because of its amazing level design and 2D skateboarding gameplay that only becomes more fun as you get better with the game. "Like the best games of the genre, it knows that easy-to-learn-but-hard-to-master mechanics, rewarding obstacles, and high speeds that test one’s reaction time are the hallmarks of a great platformer," I wrote in a four-and-a-half star review of the game last February.

PS Plus’ 2022 revamp could use a revamp of its own in 2023
Playstation 5 system and DualSense controller.

In 2022, the way we access video games radically changed. Xbox Game Pass became accessible on TVs without a console, Logitech took a stab at cloud-focused hardware, and the Steam Deck made PC games accessible from anywhere. Services were instrumental to some of those changes, as companies looked to hook players with a monthly subscription rather than pushing them to buy individual games. When Sony announced it was revamping its PS Plus service earlier this year, it felt like a big piece of that industrywide transformation was about to fall into place.

That’s not exactly what happened. Rather than emerging as Sony’s answer to Game Pass, the new PS Plus landed with a thud when it launched earlier this summer. Its selection of launch games underwhelmed potential subscribers and Sony struggled to build momentum with subsequent additions. In fact, the service lost 2 million subscribers post-revamp. It’s a bit puzzling considering that PS Plus functionally costs as much as Game Pass annually and has a larger library overall. So why is there such a chasm in public perception between the two?

The PlayStation 5's game library is full of fantastic titles for all gamers. It's home to several critically acclaimed exclusives like God of War Ragnarok, Horizon Forbidden West, and Stray, among others — there are almost too many great games to keep track of (or afford to purchase). Thankfully, Sony has PS Plus, a game subscription service similar to Xbox Game Pass that allows members to download and play a growing library of PlayStation games for a small monthly fee.

New games are being added to the service every month, including recent hits, classics from years ago, and brand-new indie games. Check out the list below to see what games have been added to PS Plus recently. We'll update this list every month as new titles are being added or removed from the library.
