Some PS3 Owners Can Use Hulu Plus Now

Some PlayStation 3 users in the U.S. will be able to try out the $9.99-per-month video subscription plan from Hulu right away.

Sony Corp. says that means the PlayStation 3 will be the only game console able to play streaming videos from Hulu this year.

Hulu plans to launch its Hulu Plus subscription service on Microsoft’s Xbox 360 early next year.

Invitations will be sent to certain subscribers of PlayStation Plus, a $49.99-a-year service that offers gamers select downloads and game trials. A wider rollout to all U.S. PlayStation 3 users is expected in the next few months.

Hulu, a joint venture between NBC Universal, News Corp., The Walt Disney Corp., and Providence Equity Partners, kicked off its premium subscription plan last month to supplement advertising revenue on its free video website and expand to more devices.

Hulu Plus subscribers can get the entire current season of “Glee,” “The Office,” “House” and other series, as well as a complete roster of past seasons from broadcasters ABC, Fox and NBC.

But paying subscribers will be shown the same number of ads as users of the free website, who can only see a few recent episodes of those shows.

3 PS Plus games to check out this weekend (September 27-29)
The cast of Far Cry 5 sits at a table.

We're at a point between major PS Plus content drops. We still have a few more days to wait until October's PS Plus Essential additions arrive and a couple of weeks until the PS Plus Premium and Extra Game Catalog is once again bolstered. Thankfully, September's PS Plus Premium and Extra additions were particularly great, so there are still a lot of fantastic games for you to try out. This weekend, I'm spotlighting three games you can play this weekend if you're a PS Plus subscriber and unsure what to try out next.
Far Cry 5

Even six years after its release, Far Cry 5 is still one of Ubisoft's most provocative games. In it, players take on a doomsday cult in a remote part of Montana, exposing the dark underbelly of rural, radicalized America. It also still looks great when played on PS5 in 2024; its opening in particular has some immaculate lighting and facial animation for a game this old. It is otherwise a fairly formulaic and straightforward first-person Ubisoft open-world game, but if you don't mind that Far Cry 5 is a thought-provoking game worth checking out for those who've never played it before. The PS4 version of Far Cry 5 is part of the PS Plus Extra game catalog. It's also on PC and Xbox One.

3 new PS Plus games you should try this weekend (September 20-22)
A card battle in The Plucky Squire.

Sony drops a big batch of new games into the PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium Game Catalog around the midpoint of each month. The latest set of games for the subscription service dropped on September 18, and it was a fantastic group of titles. From games that launched right into the service on day one to ones getting PS5 ports right after an appearance in the critically acclaimed Astro Bot, there are plenty of awesome new games to choose from if you're looking for something to play this weekend on PS Plus. If you need more help narrowing those choices down, I'd recommend these three games in particular.
The Plucky Squire

The Plucky Squire is a new indie game from All Possible Futures, a studio led by former Pokémon artist James Turner. It's a love letter to creatives, video games, and the art that inspires people. It plays around with genre a lot. It'll be a top-down action game like The Legend of Zelda as you venture through a storybook before you're forcing to jump out of the book and into the real world, where it becomes a 3D platformer. It's a brisk 6-hour tribute to creativity that honors everything from The Legend of Zelda to Punch Out and Rhythm Heaven, so play through it this weekend if you can. The Plucky Squire is available through PS Plus Extra on PS5. It's also available on PC, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch.
