The video game site vg247 is reporting that Sony is set to reveal plans for a paid subscription to the PSN at E3. If true, the service would not lock the existing content on the PSN, but add new services and features that members would need to pay for.
The premium package is expected to cost under 50 pounds per year, according to the UK-based site. That would be around $75 if the price is universal. The service would include a streaming music service, more video options, and enhanced chat features. The website also states that each month, users would be given one free PSN game from a choice of two to four games.
The report makes it clear that the current online services would remain intact, so users would not need to pay any additional fees to remain online and connect with multiplayer games.
If the rumors are true, it sounds like Sony is looking to make an impact at this year’s E3. Expect the standard game announcements to be joined by a huge push for the Sony Move, as well as a possible PSP2 announcement.
