Mintberry Crunch! South Park: The Fractured But Whole revealed at Ubisoft’s E3 conference

Ubisoft opened its E3 press conference not with a trailer for a new Assassin’s Creed, or images from a new Splinter Cell, but with foul-mouthed, fighting cartoon children. Yes, the big surprise from Ubisoft’s press conference is the announcement of the sequel to South Park: The Stick of Truth, titled The Fractured But Whole. This time around, you’ll continue your friendship with the other kids as the silent protagonist, but instead of high fantasy, the game is built around Butters’ alter-ego Professor Chaos and the other superheroes that the kids portray.

To introduce the new game, Ubisoft brought South Park creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker on stage to discuss the development of the upcoming title. “We might regret it, but we’re doing it again,” was the tone the two friends brought to the stage. The first game was developed entirely in-house, and South Park Studios is working with Ubisoft San Francisco to publish the game.

In The Fractured But Whole, the player will dive deeper into their butthole, learning more about the legend behind your deadly farts. It will take up the same turn-based, classic RPG form that made the first game a success. Players build their character up with new gear, upgraded abilities, and of course a high level of customization.

While on stage, Stone and Parker remarked that they felt like they had finally started to understand making a video game by the time they finished Stick of Truth, and wanted to try their hands at it again with a sequel. We’re glad they did too, since the first game was fun and over the top, putting players right in the middle of what felt like a long episode of the show.

While the game is already available for pre-order on the Ubisoft site, there’s no release date announced as of yet, outside of 2016.

E3 2020 contingency plans

With the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) canceled due to the coronavirus, officially known as COVID-19, game companies are scrambling to make new plans. While the Electronic Software Association, which hosts the event, is looking into "an online experience" for the week in June when the conference was set to take place, any in-person plans must be rearranged.

The yearly gaming expo was set to take place in Los Angeles from June 9-11, and the sudden cancellation of E3 delivered a shake-up as many top gaming companies (with the exception of Sony, which was not going to attend for the second year in a row) had presentations planned.

How to revive dead companions in Baldur’s Gate 3
Withers offering services to the player in Baldur's Gate 3.

You're given a good bit of leeway during battles in Baldur's Gate 3 before you or a companion actually bites the dust for good. While in battle, if a teammate does take enough damage to drop, they aren't dead then and there. Instead, they will be downed with a chance to roll every turn to get back up. If they roll successfully three times, the battle ends, or you use another character to pick them up, they're good. If they fail that roll three times, however, they will be completely dead. That can be harsh when you've become attached to certain characters and want to further their stories, so you'll be looking for any way you can to bring them back. Thankfully you do have a few options for reviving companions in Baldur's Gate 3, but just like respeccing, they aren't so obvious.
Pay Withers to bring them back

Withers is a friendly undead you can find in a secret room in the Dank Crypt found inside the Overgrown Ruins. After finding and speaking to him in his sarcophagus, he will offer you various services, one of which is bringing back any dead companions. He won't do this out of the kindness of his heart (probably because it isn't beating) and will charge you a heavy fine of 200 gold to do so. Still, that's a small price to pay to bring back a beloved character. Once paid, that character will appear in your camp where they would normally be, so there's no need to go back to their corpse and find them.
