Spider-Cat is the best reason yet to get hyped for Spider-Man: Miles Morales

Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales is getting a game-changing new feature: Spider-Cat. The PlayStation 5 launch game gives players a new costume that allows players to carry around a heroic orange cat who can help Miles in combat.

The news comes from Game Informer, which shared an exclusive first look at the feline. In the clip, Miles saves the cat during a mission and returns it to a relieved bodega owner. Once rescued, Miles can don a backpack that Spider-Cat hangs out in (the costume also appears to deck Miles out with a big red hoodie). The tabby even gets its own little Spider-Cat mask.

It’s an absolutely precious sight, but it’s not just a cute cosmetic. The video shows the cat helping Miles out during a finishing move. As he takes down a bad guy, Spider-Cat heroically leaps from Miles’ backpack and delivers a series of devastating swipes to the criminal’s face.

The cat backpack is just one of many costumes recently revealed for the game. Spider-Man: Miles Morales is getting a suit that looks similar to the one worn by Miles in Spider-Man: Inot The Spider-Verse. Players can also access a suit that looks like it belongs at an EDM concert, complete with a high-tech fishbowl helmet, glowing fingertips, and a “cool S” emblazoned on the suit’s shoulders. All in all, the game looks like it will have some memorable costumes for players to test out.

Spider-Man: Miles Morales launches alongside the PlayStation 5 on November 12, and will be available for both current and next-generation PlayStation owners.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is eyeing a fall 2023 release date
Miles Morales and Peter Parker stand together in Spider-Man 2.

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 has a new release window. According to a new PlayStation Blog post, the upcoming superhero game will launch sometime in 2023.

We haven't heard much about Marvel's Spider-Man 2 since it was first announced with a teaser trailer. All we knew was that it would launch sometime in 2023. According to developer Insomniac, we now know it'll launch in time for the holidays, barring delays.

PlayStation’s Spider-Man cameos in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse trailer
best ps4 exclusives marvel s spider man 1080p wallpaper 2

In a blink-and-you-miss-it cameo, Insomniac Games' version of Spider-Man appears in the new trailer for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.
In the trailer, we get a look at a hub where dozens of different versions of Spider-Man are hanging out and working together. This is where you can see what appears to be Insomniac's version of Spider-Man, as he is walking and talking to another Spider-Man in a black-and-red suit. The suit design is slightly different, with red patches on its legs, but otherwise, this character looks just like the Spider-Man from 2018's PS4 game. Could this be our first look at new versions of Peter and Miles' suits in Marvel's Spider-Man 2, or is Sony Pictures Animations just taking some creative liberties? Only time will tell.

It's unknown if Marvel's Spider-Man 2 will reference or set up this appearance. It's unlikely that Insomniac's Spider-Man will have much bearing on the narrative of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse -- chances are that this is little more than a cameo. Lots of Spider-Men will appear in this film, and a bunch of them are seen chasing Miles at the end. Twitter, in particular, seems pretty happy that the Spider-Man Unlimited version of Peter Parker is seen chasing Miles. Regardless, it's cool to see one of the most recent video game interpretations of the character represented in a Spider-Man film.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will hit theaters on June 2, 2023. Meanwhile, Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is slated to be released for PlayStation 5 sometime next year. A page for the game appeared on the PlayStation Store earlier this week, but was taken down.
