We’ve all been waiting to learn when Starfield‘s first major DLC, Shattered Space, would be ready for takeoff, and the latest trailer at Gamescom Opening Night Live finally provided the answer. Just over a year after the base game’s launch, Shattered Space will arrive on September 30, but you can start cruising in the new REV-8 vehicle today.
Rather than showcasing anything unique to the actual DLC, the Opening Night Live trailer focused heavily on the new vehicular additions to Starfield’s exploration. The REV-8 was the main focus, showing us how players can drive the new buggy across the surface of all types of planets on the ground, or use its jets to propel ourselves through the air in low-gravity. It also comes equipped with a jet booster for extra speed, and a roof-mounted rocket launcher to take out pirates from the comfort of the driver’s seat.
The trailer ends with a mysterious series of images most likely related to House Va’ruun, which has already been confirmed to one of the factions Shattered Space will explore more deeply.
At launch, a major point of criticism levied at Starfield was around its exploration. As massive as its universe was, there wasn’t much in the way of actual exploration, especially on the planets themselves. The addition of vehicles will at least alleviate the monotony of walking and jumping across barren planets and hopefully be the first step in making exploration a satisfying experience.
There’s been no word on how much Shattered Space will cost on its own, but you can get access if you own the Digital Premium Edition on Xbox or Steam. The REV-8 update will be free to all players starting today.
