Text And Phone From Second Life

Text And Phone From Second LifeThe division between real and virtual worlds becomes thinner and thinner. Beginning today on a one-month trial, BT will let your avatar on Second Life make 10 free phone calls – each lasting up to an hour – and send 10 text messages to the real world using its Avatalk service.   Userscan either use the red BT phone boxes, or they can obtain a heads-up display allowing them to make calls from a number of locations.   Matt Brotherton, project manager at the Applied TechnologyCentre in BT’s chief technology office, told silicon.com,   "What we’ve been able to do is open it up completely, so Second Life users can call andsend SMS to anyone else in the world. For Second Life users, it’s quite compelling…We’re looking into how virtual-world environments can provide real business benefits to our enterprise, corporate and SME customers, from the perspective of providing collaborative environments internally but also as new channels to their customers."   Avatalk is hosted by five islands onSecond Life – Idearium, Italy Island Resort, Venice Italy, Style Magazine and Nuova Sicilia.

The Sims competitor Life by You canceled before entering early access
A conversation in Life by You.

Paradox Interactive has canceled Life by You, a life simulator game in the style of The Sims. The project was supposed to launch a couple of weeks ago, but got delayed at the last minute.

Life by You was in development at Paradox Tectonic under the supervision of The Sims 3 and Second Life alumnus Rob Humble. It was a life simulation sandbox where players could build a town, customize the people within it, and control them as they went about their daily lives. Notably, conversations between its characters featured full dialogue rather than a fictional language like Simlish. Paradox, a publisher known for games like Cities: Skylines and Europa Universalis IV, planned to release the game to early access but kept delaying it. Its September 2023 early access release date eventually became a June 2024 one, but just weeks ahead of release, Paradox delayed the game indefinitely. Now, it seems that management at Paradox has lost faith in Life by You.

Life Eater is an unnerving horror game about ritualistic sacrifice
Key art for Life Eater.

In 2023, Strange Scaffold released El Paso, Elsewhere, a horror-tinged throwback to the likes of Max Payne that also told a deeply personal and unsettling story about a toxic relationship. Its next game, Life Eater, puts players in the shoes of a serial killer seeking out new targets to kill and sacrifice to a god he's starting to question the existence of. This isn't a Manhunt- or Hitman-style stalk-and-kill game; it offers a feeling of detachment by having players parse through timelines to learn everything they need to abduct and properly sacrifice a target.

Life Eater is a brisk, yet unnerving experience. Even if it doesn't quite reach the heights of El Paso, Elsewhere, it affirms that Strange Scaffold is one of the best studios working in the horror gaming space right now.

A busy 2023 wasn’t enough to pull me away from my go-to mobile game
Ms. Marvel listening to lo-fi in Marvel Snap.

I play lots of games across every platform for work, but my most-played game in 2023 was one I primarily engaged with for personal enjoyment. While I sunk dozens and dozens of hours into games like Baldur’s Gate 3, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Fire Emblem Engage, Fortnite, Starfield, and more, my most played game was something that didn’t even come out in 2023.

That honor goes to Marvel Snap, a collectible card game from Second Dinner for PC and mobile
