Titanfall just says no to the banhammer, won’t punish early play

titanfall just says banhammer wont punish early play screen 3 2

Check out our review of Titanfall.

If you are somehow lucky enough to get your hands on Titanfall early – whether it’s through a shady street date-breaking retail store or dark, arcane rituals involving blood sacrifice – you can rest easy in the knowledge that you won’t be punished for the “crime” of playing the game before the rest of the world does. Respawn founder Vince Zampella said as much on Twitter, writing “About playing early: We won’t stop or ban legit copies. It is prelaunch, so there may be interruptions in service as we prep servers.”

Isn’t that nice? No? You’re probably just jealous because you opted against offering up your immortal soul to the great and mighty Cthulhu in exchange for early Titanfall. Don’t fret though. You’ll miss out on a few extra days of leveling up, but you’ll also enjoy an eternity of not being enslaved to a powerful race of ancient squid-head-god-things. In Titanfall pre-release, as in all other things, there is balance.

Titanfall… um… falls on Tuesday, March 11 for PC and Xbox One. An Xbox 360 version is set to follow on March 25. We’ll have a review for you sometime next week, though we’re going to hold it until we can try the full game, post-release, to see how the servers hold up. If you’re one of the lucky few to nab it early, let us know what you think in the comments right here.

Titanfall 2 is going free to play on Steam this weekend. The move comes one week after the five-year old shooter broke new records on Steam when fans flocked to the long-dormant game.

First released in 2016, Titanfall 2 is a first-person shooter by Respawn Entertainment. The game initially had the misfortune of launching during a crowded holiday season next to Battlefield 1 and Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare. It initially got lost in the shuffle, but is gaining new interest after Respawn announced that it's adding elements of the game to Apex Legends. Last weekend, the game hit its highest Steam player count ever, with its player base rising 650% seemingly out of nowhere.

Microsoft says it ‘messed up’ on Xbox Live pricing, won’t raises rates
xbox one x review mem2b

Microsoft has backtracked on an announcement that it would raise the price of Xbox Live Gold memberships after an outcry from gamers. Many pointed out that it was tactless to raise prices on gaming when many people are staying at home due to the pandemic and gaming provides a much-needed form of safe entertainment.

In a blog post first posted on Friday, January 22, Microsoft said it would increase the price of Gold memberships by $1 for one-month memberships and $5 for three-month memberships in the U.S., with equivalent prices hikes in other regions too. That would have raised prices to $11 for one month and $30 for three months. Prices for six-month and 12-month memberships would have remained unchanged.

Take-Two says next-generation game price hikes won’t be universal

Take-Two Interactive Software hasn't shied away from plans to sell next-generation video games for $70. But the company's chief executive cautioned that not every Xbox Series X or PlayStation 5 title will qualify for the premium pricing.

Speaking to investors on an earnings call on Monday, Take-Two chief Strauss Zelnick said the company will consider a $10 price hike on next-generation console games on a "title-by-title basis." Zelnick didn't say what might ultimately dictate which games will cost $70, but in an earlier interview with GamesIndustry.biz on Monday, he offered some clues at Take-Two's calculus.
