“Uncharted 2” Takes the Win at VGAs

Video Game Awards ShowThe cinematic action adventure “Uncharted 2: Among Thieves” nabbed three prizes including game of the year at the Spike TV Video Game Awards.

The PlayStation 3 exclusive was named top game for that console and honored for its graphics at the awards show Saturday night at the LA Live complex in downtown, which featured appearances from Stevie Wonder, Green Day and Jack Black. Snoop Dogg and The Bravery performed.

“I want to see the companies that make these video games make them accessible so that people like myself can enjoy them too,” Wonder said before presenting the best music game award to “The Beatles: Rock Band.”

Green Day announced that they would be featured in a similar standalone title by game maker Harmonix, “Green Day: Rock Band,” to be released next year.

Jake Gyllenhaal promoted his Jerry Bruckheimer-produced action movie based on the “Prince of Persia” games, due out next summer, and presented the game of the year award.

“Uncharted 2” earned raves from critics when it was released in October, and from attendees Saturday ranging from actor Zach Braff to “Gears of War” designer Cliff Bleszinski.

“We knew when we were making this game it was going to be good, but nobody could have predicted this kind of success,” said Nolan North, the voice actor who plays “Uncharted 2’s” lead character Nathan Drake.

He said he and developers at Naughty Dog studios had celebrated the game’s big sales “by kicking around ideas for ‘Uncharted 3,’ because that’s what we want to do.”

Zachary Quinto of “Star Trek” said he’d be lending his voice to the upcoming massively multiplayer online game “Star Trek Online.” Mike Tyson made an appearance alongside the cast of MTV’s new “Jersey Shore” reality show, who hogged attention backstage.

“Everybody in the green room is pushing all these mega-celebrities out of the way,” Braff said. “Get out of the way Sam Jackson, I think ‘The Situation’ is coming in.”

Besides the awards, the show’s focus was on never-before-seen previews of upcoming titles, including the rebooted, Afghanistan-set “Medal of Honor,” “Batman: Arkham Asylum 2,” “Crackdown 2,” “The Force Unleashed 2” and “Halo: Reach.”

One of the foes you may come across is an optional boss called The Red Prince, who resides upon a throne within The Gilded Chambers of Losomn. While you won't encounter him on every visit to the biome, finding him provides you with an opportunity to earn some unique items in various ways. If you don't pay him tribute, though, be prepared for he'll be offended and rise from his throne prepared to strike you down – but we won't let that happen, will we?
How to beat The Red Prince
The Red Prince can be found in the Gilded Chambers while exploring Losomn. Speaking with him will provide you with a few different options, each offering its own unique rewards.

If you pay The Red Prince the three Crimson King Coins he requests, you'll skip the boss battle and earn the Bloody Steel Splinter, which can be exchanged with McCabe at Ward 13 for the Blood Draw weapon mod. These coins can be found by farming the teleporting Fae enemies throughout Losomn.
If you kill The Red Prince using the Assassin's Dagger, found by completing the Fae Council quest in Losomn, you'll earn the Crown of the Red Prince helmet.

How to beat the Nightweaver in Remnant 2
A gunslinger shooting a glowing wraith.

Remnant 2 has a smorgasbord of unique and punishing boss encounters to push through if you want to see everything in its Soulslike world, but few are as frenetic and occasionally jarring as the Nightweaver. The showdown against this nightmarish foe caps off a long and unsettling trek through Losomn's creepy Sanatorium. If you've come across her and find yourself struggling with her rapid movement and constant barrage of attacks, we'll offer some tips here that might help you make it through the fight alive.
How to beat the Nightweaver in Remnant 2
The Nightweaver is located in Losomn within The Tormented Asylum. She's one of Remnant 2's most challenging bosses due to how fast and erratically she moves around the battlefield. It doesn't help that she has multiple phases throughout different areas of the Sanatorium, eventually making for a very claustrophobic fight once you reach the interior.

At the beginning of the fight, you'll be outside the Sanatorium facing down the Nightweaver as she flies around in various directions, which can make her difficult to hit. During this first phase, the biggest things to look out for are her Spectral Lunge and Icy Spikes attacks. The former is telegraphed by her ascending into the air and beginning to dive, at which point she'll begin swiping viciously in your direction until she reaches you – but careful timing can help you dodge right through her attack to survive the onslaught. The latter is a ranged homing attack, meaning you'll have to either strafe left or right to avoid them or dive out of their way.
