'Watch Dogs 2's Marcus Holloway lets his hair down in new trailer

The original Watch Dogs combined fluid free-running and combat controls with a unique hacking ability to create a fun twist on the traditional third-person shooter, but the game had one glaring flaw: protagonist Aiden Pearce. His personality was a cross between sleep-deprived Batman and a bowl of plain oatmeal, and his motivations were so thin that the narrative was completely anemic. In Watch Dogs 2, new main man Marcus Holloway is designed to be more complex, more interesting, and above all, more fun.

The original Watch Dogs let you peer into the lives of a select group of citizens wandering the streets of Chicago, with the “Profiler” took giving you information on a person’s job, salary, and shady activity, and at the beginning of Watch Dogs 2, Marcus learns of the labels he has been designated with.

“At the beginning of the game he hacks into the system and we see he’s got a profile, right?” says Marcus actor Ruffin Prentiss. “All these labels are pushed upon him because of where he’s from, his family’s history … Marcus is fighting against injustice, at its very essence, at the core of everything, and he just wants everything to be fair.”

Fairness, of course, means launching a large-scale attack on those responsible for the mass surveillance now so common in the United States and around the globe. Marcus chooses DedSec, an organization we first met in the original game, because they share his goals and their diversity is representative of society as a whole.

While the original game kept its cast of characters extremely small and went into very little detail about the members of DedSec, Marcus will have several friends within the group, each with their own unique skillset. “Wrench,” for instance, who we first saw at E3, is the “problem solver” and demolitions expert, who Marcus will use when something needs to explode, while Josh is a more inverted character whose programming skills are unmatched.

“They’re not trying to take down society. They’re good people who are trying to do something right,” Prentiss adds.

We’ll see if Watch Dogs 2 wins a “most improved story” award when it launches on November 15 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.

Destiny 2’s hot new exotic is another pay-to-win headache
The player is firing the green projectiles from osteo striga in Destiny 2.

Few things get the Guardians of Destiny 2 excited like hunting for the latest and greatest exotic weapons. Osteo Striga is one such weapon. This unique SMG debuted with Destiny 2: The Witch Queen, but with a problematic caveat: Only players who are willing to pay extra are eligible to acquire the gun at launch.

It’s the latest in a troubling trend of Bungie turning the pay-to-win screws into one of the best fanbases in gaming, and is one of the few black marks in how the developer engages with its community.

Vivo entered the smartwatch market with the Vivo Watch in September 2020. Today, the company released the Vivo Watch 2. The product will likely compete with the Huawei Watch D, which got a China launch just a day later. This is also the first smartwatch from Vivo to gain SMS functionality via an eSIM, or embedded SIM, making it stand out a bit in an otherwise crowded market. The watch's design was revealed ahead of its official launch, so there are no surprises here. It has a 46mm case and two silicone strap options -- black and white. The circular dial has a neat finish, with two tiny buttons on the side. The smartwatch has a 515mAh battery that runs for seven days on just a single charge. The watch is equipped with an OLED display as well. Other common features such as heart rate measurement, GPS tracking, and a step counter are also present.

Vivo also announced a collaboration with three of China's major telecom operators -- China Telecom, China Unicorn, and China Mobile -- to enable SMS functionality via an eSIM. This means that the Vivo Watch 2 can communicate through SMS without having to be paired with a partner device via Bluetooth, internet, or Wi-Fi, which could make it a game-changing smartwatch. The wearable is currently available on Vivo's China website for pre-order, and 91 mobiles has suggested that there will be two variants of the Watch -- a Bluetooth version and an e-SIM variant, though the site seems to only show three color options for one variant currently. The Bluetooth version would be priced at 1,299 yuan ($206), while the eSIM version could land at a price of 1,699 yuan ($270).

Developer GSC Game World has canceled all of its NFT plans for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chernobyl one day after announcing them. The announcement comes an hour after the official S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Twitter account published a statement doubling down on its commitment to NFTs.

Yesterday, GSC Game World and blockchain gaming service DMarket announced a partnership that would bring NFTs to S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2. Players would be able to bid for unique items in auctions and have the chance to get scanned into the game as an NPC via photogrammetry.
