XCOM returns with a new look and a new trailer

XCOM is one of those games that many people played as a kid and carried fond memories of it with them into their adulthood. But fond memories don’t explode well, so the upcoming XCOM not only reboots the series with a fresh new story to introduce it to a new audience, it also changes the gameplay from a turn-based strategy to a first-person shooter.

With E3 looming, it is not surprising to see a trailer for XCOM even though it isn’t due out until next year. It would be surprising if there wasn’t a trailer for the game. So far details on the plot have been limited. You are an FBI agent hunting down aliens that want to destroy us. But what more plot do you really need? See alien, shoot it with a big gun. Sounds about right.

The game was originally announced at last year’s E3, so expect for it to come out swinging this year and have a major presence at the convention. Check back with us next week for more details.

XCOM is due out on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 on March 6, 2012.

Xcom Marvel Game E3 Leak

The Avengers might be making an appearance at this year's E3 -- just not how you would expect. According to a leak of 2K's E3 plans posted on Reddit, Firaxis, the developer behind the XCOM franchise, is working on a turn-based game with Marvel characters.

According to the leak, the title from Firaxis is currently in development and code-named CODA. The leaker's source described it as "XCOM with Marvel heroes," and said that some "famous actors are voicing the characters." All signs in this case point to Marvel's Avengers, but with the size of the Marvel universe, the characters could easily be from the X-Men or the Fantastic Four.

New Atari 50 DLC shows the Intellivision acquisition is already paying off
An Atari 2600+ sits on a table.

Digital Eclipse's Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration is an excellent and comprehensive look back at the company's now classic video game lineup, with games to play and extra content to interact with. So far, it's gotten one DLC: The Wider World of Atari, that added even more titles. Now, it's about to get its second, thanks to an acquisition it made earlier this year.

Atari announced The First Console War on Friday, and it's about, as you can guess, the company's first console war with the Intellivision, although it'll touch on a specific element of it. In the 1980s, Mattel was publishing games on the Intellivision. At some point, it decided to release versions of these console exclusives for its main competitor, the Atari 2600, under the M Network label. There are 19 of these games coming to Atari 50 with The First Console War, which is set to launch on November 8 for PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, and PlayStation 4 Atari 50 owners.
